Inciting a Riot – The Journey Ahead Posted by Administrator on Tue, 2010-06-08 14:30

“Go West young man and grow up with the country.” -John B. L. Soule.

In the 1840s, young men rushed out West in search of gold and a better life. In the 1990s, young men stormed Silicon Valley seeking internet millions and bodacious babes. Today, in 2010, I head to the City of Angeles for the perfect gank and epic lulz.

My name is Matt Marcou and I am the new eSports Manager for Riot Games. For years, I have planned eSports events from my humble dwellings in the Midwestern United States, but now I travel West to the heart of the entertainment industry in pursuit of my passion.

Matt Marcou hard at work...

Moving my life out West has been a dream ever since High School when my friends and I shared our ideas of the perfect video game while plugging away mindlessly at code in our AP Computer Science courses. Alas, most of us did not build upon the fledgling knowledge that we had, but rather we spent our time writing endless print loop scripts and terrorizing the networks of rival school children in our area. This killed off any hope of emerging as the next Will Wright or Jon Carmack, but it never killed off my dream.

Ahead of me lies a three day, 35 hour road trip through seven US States, yet that is a small step compared to the journey that my life has taken to get to this point. Both still are dwarfed by the impact that the gaming industry has had on my life and the hundreds of millions of online gamers who frag on a daily basis.

Over the next 4 days, I want to share my story with you as I embark on the next stage of my journey. Consider this to be my introduction as I get to know all of you in the League of Legends community better. Buckle up and have fun!
