Design is cool, but don't limit yourself. There are lots of ways to get involved in game development.

The performance issue on Howling Abyss is being caused by a texture management issue. It is being worked on right now. We are improving our tools and technology so that we can actually have great looking content that actually runs better too.

Smoke is a great idea. It is definitely something we have been discussing. Do you have any other environment art feedback or suggestions? I would love to hear them.

No I completely appreciate the counter viewpoint, and I REALLY hope no one downvotes you for disagreeing with me. I may have been more upset with the varus than even I realized. And I'm sorry if it was offputting, I don't mean to be that way, even on voice. I KNOW I'm not better than most people, I'm in the MMR I'm at for a reason. I could have been putting my criticism in a nicer way, even though I was only on voice.

I'll be more aware of that, just please note that more often than not I'm more positive. First game of the day upsets I guess.

Lee is being silly I believe. He was chatting with me in stream about how he wants to play with me, so I dont THINK he's serious.

I wasn't saying that I could play the role better, I was just commenting on how the Varus and I weren't meshing. It was mostly me trying to play a passive champion that I don't normally play. After the game got going, I just tried to work with our team and do what I could.

Sorry if I sounded ragey though When I keep dying as a support due to my own stupidity, I have to work to not get down on the game.

Basically, it came down to this. Morello sat down one day, played him. Turned to me and said. "Man. Everything on Xerath is delayed gratification. You should give him at least one thing that doesn't feel sluggish or require a lot of setup to payout."

The sonic shockwave line stun is feel testing pretty well in lane, though the entire team has valid concerns about the power of a line stun in team fights. The next few days should hopefully shed some light on that aspect.

Basically, traps are cool positional tools that Xerath doesn't really get to exploit. If I was going to do traps, I would do it on his ultimate, such that he creates a minefield with his autoattacks. However, I am extremely unlikely to do this, because he's already conveying such a sense of zone control that people just run when he sieges up.

This is totally accurate and the current problem I'm fighting on him.

Current issues:

• Frequency of the ult is fighting the power of the moment
• Specifically wave clear power vs. the 30 sec cd red zone
• Action count - Xerath used to have too little to do in locus. Now he has too much.

Additionally, I really wanted to make building mana appealing on this character. However, there's some huge challenges in that. Building mana implies high base damage and low cooldowns. Having both of those puts him in a strange place.

I'm thrashing on a ton of different iterations to try to figure out what feels best for both users and victims. Currently, he can cast all of his spells at whatever range Locus is at. (1000 on activation, growing over 4 sec. Scaling up to 1500 @ rank 1, 2000 at rank 2, 3000 at rank 3)

This mean's he's just always using his full toolkit, which makes him incredibly dangerous.

One option brought up is that he has two "ranges" in Locus of Power.

1) On-Screen - he can cast spells. (1500 range area)
2) Off-Screen - he can hurl his long range bombardment auto attacks (3000 range area)

This might open up the ability to have a short cooldown on Locus, but a serious "danger zone" where he can poke. However, going to a short cooldown fights the recently "cool" thing that has developed which was:

"The Xerath Missile Silo sets up somewhere in the jungle. When the team fight breaks out, *someone* begins rushing to the Xerath missile silo to force him to unsiege."

Which is a pretty cool tactic for both sides to execute. However, special group tactics like that are *awesome* in premade comps and incredibly hard to explain to solo queue groups.

Argh. These decisions are not easy

Our desire is to get Magma Chamber out into the wild in a pretty raw state, get some feedback on it's gameplay, then eventually do some crazy Howling Abyss style polish on it. I love your smoke vent idea though. Feel free to post any other suggestions you might have for the map.

We like to keep the shape language for brush consistent so anyone that has experience in LoL will know what to expect when they encounter it. We went through a ton of revisions on the Brush in Howling Abyss until we got something that felt appropriate for the environment. But that definitely does not preclude exploring a smoke option. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming.

I read Salvatore a lot as a kid- back when Prodigy was around, I was on a bulletin board group where we followed his books very closely. I went and wrote his publishing company a fan letter asking if he would contribute anything to a newsletter I was putting together. The day I got his response in the mail was one of the highlights of my young life. Salvatore will always have a special place in my heart for doing that.

I played AD&D back when it was the most current version. Not as much, lately. I did a lot of theatre growing up- and I think I got my 'role' playing fix, there, while getting my gaming fix through video games and board games.
