This is a bit suboptimal, but because I think Flash makes the game better (Shurelia actually convinced me of this back in the day, and I still think she was right), it's worth low variety for now.

It is to an extent, but a move speed buff, ult hard CC and a slow means that it's really binary. Compare that to Udyr, who has no inherent slow and weaker CC - that shows this pattern in action more properly.

Thank you Morello and company for giving me a game that at times may frustrate the hell out of me (I blame the community) but has kept my interest now for over 2 years. To many more years of firing lasers, eating my opponents, and chasing he who should not be chased.
My only two cents in all of this: MOAR DRAGONS! Your quota for over-sized fire-breathing lizards is severely lacking.

A counter-point is TF2. As an original member of the TFC community, listening to us would have ruined their otherwise successful game.

His lore spoke heavily to me given this detail. The visual stand point of old Trundle further drove this home. He looked visually like an outcast in his runt-based/diseased/lanky way. I knew he'd stay niche for this, but I didn't mind. He was the kind of champion release that I treasured. After I purchased him with IP, I didn't regret it ever. I enjoyed everything about him. And I kept hoping for a cool skin.
Had new Trundle been released as a skin, I surely would have purchased it to show support. I intend to do so with his other skins if his Traditional variant is fixed. The present version of it, however, lacks the same spark as Trundle on live. I'm sure you've heard why.
I largely lump Trundle in with the likes of Gragas and Urgot that support otherwise very select niche groups. But, they offered a lot of value to someone completely new to the game that wanted to pick a different champion that didn't fit common fantasy wants. I was amazed at the choice when I joined because of this. I'm glad League is trying to stay true to variety, but the present niche needs to be preserved too. You don't have to make another Gragas, Urgot, or Trundle, but they're so valuable because they are rare.
It doesn't have to be prioritized immediately. I know there are lengthy development times. But I think it's important as a sign of good faith to admit more than the mistake and take action: Make the promise and commit the relaunch and/or skins team to fix Traditional Trundle to respect the old version! We take a lot of Riot's words on good faith. This is a way to show that you understand and appreciate all players by making Traditional Trundle the full-on old Trundle. I decided to keep purchasing RP rather than protest. Please, prove to me you're willing to support me too. It doesn't have to be another champion.
Trundle was a champion that very outwardly represented his lore. And his body type, disease effect (buzzing flies that should be on his body and not the pillar), and tripod walk/hop are all crucial there. His Q animation should be fixed too. I'm still not sure why the new Q animation was deemed fitting for a feral, diseased troll.
Keep in mind that we were promised our dirty little pigpen. I believe the skin needs to be reworked for that purpose. I understand this is not my game alone. I understand it won't be in the future. But the greatness of League is the overall representation.
Please fix Traditional Trundle for the niche and devoted base. I've talked to a lot of upset players over this past few weeks, and they love the game. This is killing a lot of them.
Just a promise for now to give the skin a proper resemblance would quiet the unrest and try to get people to support a new direction. It seems the best compromise.
I want to have faith in the ever developing direction. And I think for this group there needs to be this. Not some blight where some very devoted niche players were just left scorned. I want to move forward together. As you said, it is an important topic.

This is even-headed (and I very much appreciate that!), so I wanted to respond. This is the last thing I will say on Trundle (as my concern primarily lies with the approach as opposed to being directly involved with Trundle) overall. I think what's been said has been presented by everyone, and we're continuing to repeat points.
My approach in the future will be as stated - and when we do need to creatively change a character, my goal is to give warning so there can be a discussion and we don't miss some important details that are important to players.
First, let me make sure I understand the standpoint on "fix Traditional Trundle" requests. It's that the animations on the new one look pretty different than old Trundle, correct? If that's the case, then allow me to explain (I mentioned this in the other thread, but I'll put it here too) the stance on that.
The desire, in this case, would be to be extremely true-to-life to the original Trundle. To preserve legacy and attachment to the removed character. And you're correct in thinking the Traditional skin is meant to capture as much of the original flavor as possible. The issue with this is, though, that requires a new character's worth of work to support, or would require us to basically put original Trundle back in the game.
Neither of those options will happen or are on the table. To elaborate;
* Preserving the legacy to this degree of detail is not worth the opportunity cost (ie, what else those animators/3D modellers/etc could be doing). Legacy is not the only thing that can be important in League, and in this case, it's simply not important enough for me to allocate this stuff to this project. How many champions need reworks, a second skin, haven't had a skin in a year? How much more does it add to the game to create a new champion? In both cases, these are more important by a substantial amount. Not popular, but true.
* Removing the previous version of Trundle, artistically, is a major goal behind why we reworked him in the first place. He looks terrible and makes the entire game look worse as a result. This, to our game, is like returning triangle feet on Nidalee's legacy skins after the rework out of people who would be attached (different example, but artistically similar).
This is why we won't just change it, and why I think the right approach is to avoid this situation in the future when reworking champions - a very important and clear lesson. Those costs can be avoided altogether when done this way.

No, we don't want to just make the controls needlessly complex. Working within the 4-skill framework (like doing transforms) lets us get the same benefits without needing custom UI/confusion.

I trend to agree as a player - BF fell a lot for me after 1942 generally, but the more modern ones are less appealing overall (which a number of critiques outside the scope of this post!) to me.
It depends a lot on what their goals were, though. If it was to broaden appeal in the short- and mid-terms, then I think they've been really successful, but if it was to create a really unique or compelling series in the long-term, I don't think their newer games are well-positioned to do that.

Yes - as a skills development mode, I think this has a lot of value - though as a serious mode, I think it has no weight.
The alternative to letting matchmaking work with randoms is enforcing needing pre-made 5's (or the even more random factors of custom lobbies) instead of people being able to get in a game alone at all. Now, champ select needs some help to smooth this - we agree - but it doesn't involved removing the "team" in League of Legends.

I think increasing her Movement Speed while within the Twilight Shroud could be a pretty cool change. It does further add complication to an already fairly complex ability (stealth, Armor/MR, slows enemies) though.

I think adding little tricks is a great way to start to see if we can edge Akali back into a place we feel is appropriate and where she still feels powerful.
I'd really like to see where she sits after this upcoming patch before moving forward.
As far as the nerfs we chose, we reduced her base damage but increased her ratio simply to hit her laning power but not reduce her late game scaling. Perhaps the ratio increase wasn't enough to actually make it more of a tradeoff since it crosses old values at 300 AP. Maybe 200 was a more reasonable crossover point, but this is always a scary proposition considering Akali's late game damage potential to squishy targets is still deadly when she snowballs.
To be honest, the ult cooldown change may just have been flat out the wrong direction. It was essentially an attempt to reduce her ability to use her R's simply for free damage harass at level 6 and force her to be much more thoughtful about its use, but it seems to have had a larger snowballing effect on her power level than we originally intended. This is why we're currently going to try reverting back half way to the original ult cooldown along with the addition to her W.
Interestingly enough, our data shows that the 5 Health Potion limit has really had no significant effects on champion performances across the board. It might be that some other changes in the patch offset its effects such as nerfing Red Elixir, but our internal data shows very little fluctuation of power levels due to last patch. If you think about it, many of the opponents she was going up against were also abusing the mass Health Potion strategy so it may have off set this advantage as well as other factors to consider such as the relative value increase of innate Health sustain on champions (ex: her passive Spell Vamp). This doesn't mean the Health Potion cap hasn't reduced her power level, but it does seem to point towards the fact that it might be perceived as a bigger hit to her than it really is.
As far as your ideas to completely change her E, that's certainly a possibility if we feel that she can't be both balanced and fun with her current setup. I'd be fairly hesitant to add another semi-ranged ability on her kit though, since she is after all supposed to be melee. I understand how it would be useful when she's behind, but I would worry how it would function when she gets ahead in the lane as an addition to any Q harass.
Part of the problem with Akali (and several other squishy melee DPS / Assassins) is that she provides very little individual counterplay for her opponents once she begins to snowball. With the ability to long range dash up to 3 times on the same target, she just presses all of her buttons on the squishy person on the enemy team and the victim just has to hope that teammates are around to do something about it. That's kind of the issue with squishy melee characters in general: the current counterplay is taken out of the hands of the individual getting killed and rather put upon the teammates to do something about it. That can feel really awful when Akali's lane opponent loses and then you're the squishy bot lane AD carry getting jumped repeatedly with no valid course of action to take.
Either way, I'm not led to believe that drastic measures are needed just yet. It feels like we messed up some numbers and we can get back to a good place if we just address that. I'm sorry if the current upcoming changes disappoint any of you guys, but I'm genuinely interested in seeing how she performs in the next patch.

Let's start with a few facts: - Xerath has a 50% win rate across all elos.
- Xerath only has a 51% win rate in very high elo matches.
- Xerath's total burst has a 1134 dmg + 3.4 AP Ratio + 40% spell pen - the highest baseline burst in the game.
- Xerath has a very cool theme and concept
Despite this: - Xerath is the 2nd least played Mage across all regions.
The data indicates Xerath is actually balanced in terms of total impact on the game. His best case burst is massive. Yet he's not played a lot.
Why do you feel this is? What do you feel would make Xerath feel better?

I really would love to be a clever ninja. Increasing her skill ceiling is the way to go. This will make her complex and thus more rewarding for heavily invested players. I already elaborated on this in the OP.
However, what kind of ways do you propose to do so? I know game design is a tricky thing. An idea you think works in theory, might not work in practice.

Yeah I'm not sure on exactly where we can add more interesting gameplay hooks into Akali. The Twilight Shroud giving her vision of the area is definitely a cool start which gives her vision utility and the ability to jump to stuff that was previously in fog of war.
I thought about different ideas for the majority of last weekend. Some ideas (these are mostly random ideas by the way that most likely will never be implemented) were allowing her to Shadow Dance to allies or the center of her Twilight Shroud, allowing her to have multiple Twilight Shrouds on an ammo system, etc.
I'm actually pretty happy with what is going into the next patch. Our team is currently spending a lot of time figuring out where and how we'd like to see squishy melee champions like Yi, Fiora, and Akali succeed in League of Legends.
By the way, sorry I can't respond a whole lot. Things are busy around here.

Yes we use the y orientation. the artist had a tough time at first because the map is at an angle. So if you move point on a model you have to do extra work to place thing in space because you can only move in x,y,z, one plane at a time. We realized that if we straighten out the map and align it on the x plane it became a lot easier. Then when we exported the map for play-testing, we placed it back in its original angle.

The flaws are a team game requires teamwork? I think you're, instead, expecting the game to cater just to you and your tastes. This is the exact core attitude that the OP talks about! :P

I was giddy when I saw the 1v1/2v2 map leak. I thought it meant Riot was finally recognizing how boneheaded the idea of solo queue is, or at least trying to help satisfy the parts of the playerbase that (knowingly or not) hate being 10% of a game's outcome. Come to hear it was just a showmap for LCS and Riot was missing the point? That hurt more than the year and a half and counting Dominion has been ignored.

No, I think it's trying to make football into a solo game. That game is fine, but it's called "catch" and it's something you do to mess around - I'd be OK with a mess-around 1v1, but never a serious game for League.
You want the game to be something different than the very things that make League engaging and sticky.
