League of Legends Community - [Misc. Guide] How to 'Get' Skins for 'Free'

Note: This SHOULD be completely legal, since you're not actually getting any skins at all.

So you see Warwicks running around with Urf suits and those stupid looking Shens in Sub Zero and Scorpion knock-off skins, and you wish you had those too, but you don't want to spend cash on them. Well there's a way to get them...for free!

1) Go to your LoL folder (...blah blah\Riot Games\League of Legends) and go to the game folder.

2) You'll see a file called 'HeroPak_client.zip' Before you start messing around PLEASE make a backup of this in case you screw something up. I haven't messed up yet, but I forsee problems such as game crashing and forcing you to get a left game.

3) Open it and there will be a folder called 'DATA'. Open that and there will be several folders. Go to the 'Characters' folder.

4) There will be a lot of folders here. For example's sake let's go to the one labeled 'Annie'.

5) You'll see 3 folders and a whole lot of stuff you probably don't really know what that is. With the recent update there's a new Annie skin which is "Little Red Riding Annie" (or something). Look for the files 'Annie.dds' and 'Annie_littleRed.dds'. Check their properties and they should have the same file size.

6) If you want to use the new Annie skin simply extract the 'Annie' folder, switch the names of the .dds files ('Annie.dds' -> 'Annie_litteRed.dds' and vice versa) and put the new 'Annie' folder back into the 'HeroPak_client.zip' file under DATA\Characters.

Compare it to going to the library, going to the history section, taking out an Abe Lincoln book, being an ******* by drawing on his face and putting it back where you found it.

7) Start up LoL and test your handiwork by playing a game (practice game in case something went wrong and LoL possibly crashes). It'll still say that the alternate skin is unlocked, and that you're using Classic. However, if everything went well then your champion should look like he/she/it's using the alternate skin.

Ramifications of this include completely swapping out the appearances of various champions (i.e. playing as Jax while looking like Evelyn. There might be some limitations, such as how Evelyn doesn't have a move like Leap Strike, and so this would either best case just have an Eve in her attack animation just jumping towards the target, glitched graphics or worst case LoL would crash when you tried to Leap Strike). You could even possibly use a creep's graphics for a hero and vice versa. You could have everyone look like Fiddlesticks or the lizard creep. I haven't tested that much, but it's possible.

Edit 2: This WILL crash your game if you mess something up. Like I deleted the TF folder by mistake and then the game crashed. So make sure you haven't made any mistakes

Note: This is CLIENT SIDED, meaning only YOU can see it. NOBODY ELSE playing with you can see this. Also if some player happens to actually be using the alternate skin you switched out with, they will appear to not be using a skin at all :P (If this is actually illegal well I'm sorry Riot guys; I'll remove it.)
