Need champ

Soo im new to this game and im wondering what champ is good.
I started out with ashe and she was pretty good. Then i tried cho'gath and he was really good too. Then i bought kayle n she was ok.

Soo now im wondering what champ is good. Something that can solo/team and can kill and survive well.(This is mostly cho'gath)

anyway, what character are good, That are free and have to unlock from the shop.
