Its not DPS or AP champs, its all DPS champs are AD or AP just trying to educate the masses cant tell u how many times ive seen people use AD and DPS interchangeably when AP champs also do DPS EDIT: Added support EDIT2: Today, 11:55 AM DPS Acronym meaning Damage Per Second. Often used in role playing games such as World of Warcraft, Defense of the Ancients, and Diablo. Used to measure how much damage per second a player is inflicting. Hero 1 hits once per second and deals 100 damage. His DPS is 100. Hero 2 hits twice per second and deals 50 damage. His DPS is 100. Both Heroes purchase an item that grants 100 bonus damage. Hero 1 now hits once per second and deals 200 damage. His DPS is 200. Hero 2 now hits twice per second and deals 150 damage. His DPS is 300. DPS Used in MMORPGs, DPS stands for Damage Per Second, and has two meanings. 1) As an adjective, it describes how much damage a weapon or spell does each second. 2) As a noun, it refers to a character class or specialization which focuses on doing a lot of damage quickly, or in bursts. 1) A dagger has a rating of 112 DPS. That means that the damage it causes per hit, divided by the time it takes to swing with it, comes out to 112. 2) Mages, Rogues, Rangers, and the like focus on dealing a lot of damage, as opposed to tanks who take damage, or healers, who heal damage. Therefore, they are referred to as DPS classes Cited: Urban dictionary |

no. burst damage people arent dps. such as anivia, annie, ryze, zilean, galio, cho, veigar, etc.
only dps mages are people like amumu, mallzahar, fiddle, and heimer. and everyone uses dps for AD because its the same as saying, "you have a negative kdr." you cant have a negative kdr but everyone accepts it |
to OP: thamk you for clearing this up. its been pissin me too too
|
OP doesn't know what DPS means.
AP champions normally aren't DPS because they rely on cooldowns, thus can't deal high sustained damage. Of course, there are exceptions. |
DPS is for physicals for a reason. Mages have to have spells to do anything, While DPS like Teemo, Ashe, Sivir, and others ALWAYS do that dmg, or somewhere around it. Mages aren't dmg per second because the dmg is unsure.

EDIT: For the sake of adding an example: A good team comp is usually 1-2 DPS, 2 casters, 1-2 tanks. Now. If "DPS" really meant what you said, would Annie, Ryze, Veigar, Chogath and Amumu really be a good team comp? No. Not really. But if "DPS" means what it really means, then Master Yi, Twisted Fate, Annie, Veigar and Amumu would be a good team comp. Yes? |
Karthus is another AP DPS, but most AP champs are nukers, not dps-ers.
