Revert Athene's Unholy Grail nerf!
 

Riot please! the ap nerf from 90 to 60 is just way too much, please change it to 80 or 75 ap so athene's unholy grail will be viable again.

Unlimited mana, MR, CDR, 12% of max mana return on kill/assist, and you're complaining that you lost 30% of it's AP?

yeah but 90 or 80 ap is wut makes it attractive since it can complete a build on most of the ap/ability heavy champs. after its ap nerf it will be hard for AUG to be fit into the inventory to make a complete build.

i can safely say that 95% of AP caster will not buy AUG during season 3 if the nerf stays

Wait. So you're saying nobody will buy Athene's simply because of a fairly small 30% AP nerf?

Look at what Athene's gives you:

Basically unlimited mana. 1% regen per 1% missing is good all game, plus 12% on kill or assist, plus 15 regen/5.
40 MR. You know that a Negatron Cloak gives 45, right?
15% CDR. That's almost half of the maximum CDR right there.

And you're complaining that it's losing 30 AP. Athene's was a VERY strong item in S2, and will almost certainly continue to be good in S3. But now you're not getting sustain, CDR, resistances, and massive damage (deathcap only gives 120 AP + it's passive for similar cost), you're getting sustain, CDR, resistances, and good damage.

If you're trying to find a cookie-cutter build for all AP Mids, then I would probably agree with you. But the whole point of the S3 overhaul is to stop having cookie-cutter Runes/Masteries/Items, and while only time will tell if dominant combinations appear, there is more diversity for the time being.
Mana-hungry mids will still rush Chalice with an early AUG upgrade. Lux, Anivia, etc. Champs that don't need mana as much will build something else. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the AP was nerfed specifically so that not everyone would want to build it.
