I'm currently studying Mechatronical Engineering / Software Design duo degree at the University of Queensland in Australia. I'm finding that I absolutely hate the engineering (I'm still passing with fine grades) but am enjoying the IT side of my degree. I was just wondering how hard it would be and what steps I would have to take to get into a gaming company like Riot Games. I would absolutely to have a job in something that I enjoy such as online gaming. Oh I also dable in things such as Flash Animation, C++ and Java in my spare time.

Had no idea where to put this so hopefully a Red see's this.

Make a Mod / Game yourself to show that you are capable of working in the business.

Not sure.

Posting this on General Discussion may allow it to get more feedback, but it may also be buried in other threads.

If you have a bunch of game work you've done in your spare time and can demonstrate is really good, it's quite possible. But entry level for international candidates is more challenging unless you fit really well in a discipline, such as engineering or art.

So is Riot interest if a candidate (looking at an associate position) has industry experience but lives in Australia?

BTW Good Luck to OP to get into the industry, a suggestion I've always heard if that game mods look good to potential employers.

Also a "code portfolio" website is a great idea to demonstrate projects you've done through the internet. I have one, but I'm not showing it off just yet

@OP: You say you dabble in a few languages.. how well? Are you familiar with any graphics libraries?
