I guarantee it wouldn't have happened if not for the 1 mil DOTA 2 opening championship. It's just a marketing tactic. And the prize pool isn't just for one tournament

And the 1 mill DOTA 2 prize pool wouldn't have happened if the teams they invited were willing to go for the initial Prize Pool.
