Hello, I watched your art spotlight and I was wondering if you could give me some advices as to what drawing program I should acquire so I can eventually make drawings as good as yours.

So yeah, it was my birthdray recently, and my GF bough me my first tablet, an ituos4. Really really awesome Ive got to admit, love it and its easy to use. Im decent at drawing but I never really drew on a computer. So yeah, with the tablet Ive got autodesk sketchbook express which is fine but limited, and above photoshop elements 9 which is only for pictures if Im not mistaken.

Been playing around with sketchbook and its a real nice program, but there is no way I can make anything realistic with that, or can I?

So I have been looking at corel painter 12 which seems to be the same program you use and it looks like it could let me make stuff that look a lot better than sketchbook. But its freaking expensive, as expensive as the tablet, almost.

Anyway, Im looking for any kinds of advice you can give me, programs, tips, links to turorials, forums, best way to improve and etc etc etc.

Would really be apreciated! <3

Most of the art spotlights are using Photoshop, presumably the latest version of it at any given time. But if you can you should try all the programs you can find as some feel nicer to different people. According to IronStylus Photoshop is industry standard though.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Graves one is Photoshop too, but it looks way different from the CS2 I'm used to so I'm not 100% sure.

It's probably CS4/5.

Currently i am working with Photoshop CS5, but if you can get your hands on any version thats a good start! I've been doing pretty much the same thing since Photoshop 7.

I bet sketchbook could do anything you needed it to tho, I have a co-worker who uses it, the important thing is you get your program reading the pressure you apply from the tablet!

Apart from watching the spotlights which are time lapsed, I do have a channel on Youtube where I talk about simplifying art techniques, you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/user/KienanLafferty

You should try getting your hands on Paint tool SAI.It works really really well with the tablet because of the fact that it supports pressure pen tips really good.I find it that SAI and PS are the real top notch programs for drawing.

Question to the OP, are you a student by chance? If so then there are places like the Academic Superstore that offer bundles that include Photoshop for very low prices about 80% off the regular retail price.

If you have documents to prove you're one of the following:

Student
Faculty/Staff
School
Organization
Government
Music Instructor
Correctional
Military Service Person
Non-Academic

If you have eligibility as 2 or more of these then you can get the discount. Now while it is a Student-Teacher version you can still use it for practicing and getting better with the tablet. Best of luck to you with finding a good bargain.

Thanks everyone! Im looking at your vid right now.

Nah, unfortunatly Im not a student, I am a worker. Ive got a good idea anyway to get some pratice with my tablet, I will cruise the champion concept forum and make people without drawing skills their champs. Will only do that for serious and complete suggestion tough.
