well, i think there are a lot of reasons to want ranked. i'm not affected by long queue times and i certainly want it quite badly.

your point is valid though--i think ranked will do a lot for dominion when it goes out. it's not like the value of its addition was ever in question though, so talking about the 'why' is kind of like preaching to the choir. it's all about the 'when' and i wish i had more insight into that development cycle, but i don't right now.

Honestly those people will not do well enough to reach the top of Dominion Elo anyway as they are mostly only solely competent at last hitting. Your times won't decrease imo.

Some skills from SR transfer over very well in Dominion. Positioning, for example, is an enormous contributor to success in Dominion. Knowing how to push a lane is useful for bottom lane (yes, there are times that you push in SR too), player to champion familiarity is big, and so on. I think the only skill that doesn't transfer over is last hitting.

Not to repeat something I'm sure you've heard before... but you're in a much better position to find out what's up with that than us.

Any chance you can figure out what's going on with that for us?

I mean... we haven't seen anything since the removal of priscilla and 'mogs in the fizz patch, we're all wondering what's still in the works and why Brackhar's dissapeared from the forums for the past 2 weeks or so...

Why isn't the matchmaker expanding the rating requirements consistently before the queue time gets to TWICE the average game length, though? 40 minute queue for 20 minute game is a broken system.

I've quit draft queues after over an hour in them. There's just no excuse for that.

Not only that, but its expending 40 minutes to find a game it would have found at 20 minutes if it were fixed.

I've taken to solo queue draft mode at the same time as other people in my range just so that we all get lower queue times.

imo, it's less about specific skills/knowledge carrying over and a lot more about having more players that possess strong 'competitive gamer' attributes putting more time into the game mode (and the dominion community). even if all of them don't happen to climb to the top of the ladders themselves, they generally have a positive effect on the health of the game and contribute to the player base improving their skills overall.

i agree that the queue time is very long, but if the alternative is matching 2250 elo players with 1600 elo players, which would be the lesser 'evil'? i actually don't know the specifics of what's going on underneath the hood with matchmaking so i can't really comment very meaningfully on the subject, but i do want to mention those times to a few designers to make sure they're aware of the situation in which our higher ranked players are finding themselves.

They should write some code so that the 2250 guy can play shaco, split in half, and fight himself for good competition.

That's fairly obvious. League of Legends is a game. First priority is letting players play! Perfectly evening matches to 50/50 is a lower priority. The fact that dominion gives much more consistent gold, making carrying slightly harder in dom compared to SR makes this even more of a no brainer.

I don't think the designers thought through the matchmaking system very well since it frequently takes, as I said, over twice the game length to get a match even during peak evening hours. That's plainly stupid and should be fixed, even if it means the highest rated players get a few more % winrate.
