If you are unfamiliar with SOPA and the dangers it represents, read this post (originally posted in Announcements) : http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=1696462

I propose a LoL blackout, similiar to how reddit is shutting down for 12 hours (http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2012/01/11/reddits-sopa-blackout-admirable-but-google-and-facebook-must-follow/)

I think blacking out LoL for a day or 12 hours would raise a lot more awareness as SOPA would basically eliminate livestreams, make it hard for Riot to create new champions, etc. I realize that blacking out LoL will not be fun for any players, like myself- however, I think that the potential good to come of it by alerting the millions of league players who have no idea about the dangers of SOPA and thus possibly preserving our internet/streams/etc is worth the inconvenience of not logging on for 1 day.

What do you think?

Edit: Honored by a red post, thank you Riot for bringing more publicity to everything anti-SOPA!

That would be awesome if the huge internet giants blacked out. Would be a huge message.

I agree, it would be annoying...but the results of SOPA passing would be much worse, especially for online gamers and forum-goers :X

For someone who doesn't pay attention much to things like these, does SOPA only apply to US citizens and if it does what are some of the effects it will cause to everyone worldwide?

I'm not 100% sure myself, but I believe worldwide, at least to some degree. I do know that American streamers can easily have their streams shut down for things as simple as playing music on their streams (all music is copyrighted), alt-tabbing to a movie by accident, etc..I think that every site based in America or any site that interacts with american sites are in danger.

This is a great post on Reddit about SOPA, their actions to try to stop it, and at the bottom there are links to read more about it: http://blog.reddit.com/2012/01/stopped-they-must-be-on-this-all.html

It would affect more than just the US. Things removed in the US are completely removed, even if you're in Europe or Canada.
