Hi everyone. I am posting this from my phone. I recently started having a problem with my laptop charger it wouldn't work unless I put a little pressure on it like my cell phone. That stopped working and I had to put a lot of pressure. Me not thinking and being a complete idiot put that pressure on. Now it won't charge at all. Will a new charger fix this? Does anyone know the problem? Thank you in advance!

most of the time it's poor wiring, which is a very common occurence in laptop chargers

I've had this exact same issue with a two laptops as well. Seemed the solder that holds the input (Where the charger connects to) in place inside the computer had gotten loose/disconnected over time from heavy use. The reason the putting pressure on it worked was due to it remaking that connection. Eventually more than one pin that needs to connect to the board had gotten disconnected and finally the charger no longer worked.

My best guess is that a new charger will not fix this (At least it didn't for me). The connection probably has to be re-soldered which can only be done by opening up the computer. If you under warranty still, call the manufacturer or store in which it was purchased and ask about a repair. If out of warranty I'd call around to your local pc repair shops and ask how much it costs to fix. From what I understood when looking into it, it was a pretty common problem with heavily used laptops.

FYI: I am not a computer technician, just giving info on my experience. But hopefully it will help.

This happened to me. It turned out that I had my charger cable so bent (at the point that it plugs into my comp) that the solder in the charger plug-head came loose. I stripped the rubber off and used a hair pin to hold it in place. After a few weeks to hair pin started to spark, so I trashed the charger. a new charger fixed my problem, but the comp died soon after, probably from receiving terribly odd voltages and intermittent power from my adapter.

I got a drawer with 3 laptop cables in it. All that didnt work, thank god I had that Dell warranty. So I could call in and say, HEY another one of your ****ty chargers is broken, send me a new one. Boom, at the door in 2 days, 4 months later, wtf.. laptop is plugged in not charging.. REALLY?! AGAIN!?
