In solo queue? Maybe. 5 or 10 games required. Team ranked? Don't restrict that.

these two guys were COMPLETELY out of their league. i will mail the screenshot later.
perfect example of the point im trying to illustrate. we dont blame the lower elo players in our game.... but its just not fair to have them there

It is impossible to fix, it cannot be done.

The reason being, I am REALLY good on Ahri, but guess what I dont play her every game. If i did, i would be 1800 elo easily. On other champions I am a 100elo player.

No one can be lumped into a single rating, we all have strong points and weak points. And we dont always get to play what we want, nor do we always want to play what we are good at. And sometimes, we dont realize what we are good or bad at.

Summoner's Rift Normal Draft

solo que

Two of my teammates were under level 30. The opposing team had 4 out of their 5 players with 1000+ normal wins.
Here are their ranked elos for this season
1419
1402
1400
1416
1665

My teams ranked elos
1282
1328
1406<-myself
2 non-ranked under level 30s

Now I understand ranked elo does not equal normal elo, but how in the world was this anywhere near a fair match?

Second game today.
Normal draft/summoner's rift
Our Elo's
1647
1424
1406
1565
unranked lvl 30

Their Elos
1589
1425
1500season1
1937
1400season1
(Missed the screen cap on this one but my team gets stomped and surrendered at 25minutes. What in the world was a 1900 player doing in that game?)

Hello,

The biggest problem I have with the current elo system is it completely screws over the largest pool of players -- the mid ranged ones.

I float around 1200-1300 elo currently... that may be my actual elo / skill level, and I am fine with that.

What completely SUCKS about consistently playing at this level is that in roughly 20% of my games (rough estimate) there is at least one player who has under 5 ranked games under their belt, and has NO idea what is going on.

I understand that he's still getting worked into the system because he's new, but because I am in the mid range of players how it is fair that I am the constant test subject for people who are blatantly in the wrong elo?

Really big problem there, if you ask me.

I do not remember all these details. But I remember when my friends(3 of them) started out this game as level 1's. My friend used his level 30, I used a smurf around level 15. We faced a team with a level 30 with a bit over 1000 wins, another level 30, and the 3 were a mix between 5-10. It was quite a looong time ago, but it was quite ridiculous.

Another thing is when you solo queue at level 30, you often get un fair matches. Yes I know its not about wins, its about hidden Normal Elo in how your match make. However, there are plenty of times where you face 5 people with 800-1200 wins, and your team is a bunch of fresh level 30's. Sure, the fresh level thirties must of had high elo's, but that could easily because they are facing idiots, or simply getting carried. While the 800 win guys were just having a few bad games, and now you have people that played the game for a month, facing people who have played the game for a year. Elo doesn't show EXPERIENCE, and EXPERIENCE is what makes games unfair, happens ALOT in ranked.

You should clarify the poll question. is it "How many games does the current system take to reach true elo?" or "How many games should it take to reach true elo?"

I voted for a low number because I interpreted it as the second.

Honestly, duo queueing and the initial Elo bracket are screwing up the true adjustment process. I've been on both the receiving and giving end of a 1200 Elo team duo queued with a 1700 who completely upsets the balance of play.

I wouldn't mind waiting a minute of two more of queue time to be matched up with, say ANOTHER 1700 player in a 1200 Elo game, so as to equalize or level the playing field, so to speak. This range is flexible, of course, e.g. 1300 team w/ 1800 ringer V. 1350 team w/ 1750 ringer etc.

I don't suggest locking champs until you've played X amount of games with them; by and large I'm noticing a lot more teams adhering to the meta i.e. not troll picking

Kudos to you though for trying to work on this, it's really not an easy task. Overall though I feel like ranked should get some sort of new ruling. You have people who want to actually try their best and win, and then you have people who couldn't really care less/mess around, and finally the group of people who just flat out troll others. Perhaps a solution to that would be making different brackets you can choose to queue, with people choosing what they feel like. I understand queue times might get longer, but I think people want quality games over quantity. I've played probably close to 4500-5000 games of league and I've always enjoyed games the most where people would try their best/people were wanting to win.

I realize that while I didn't give direct examples of games, I wanted to give my input on what I thought overall would make the game better.
I have a psychology background, so I agree with several of your points. Sometimes, people join a Normal game and strive to win even though it isn't Ranked. Sometimes, people join a Normal game and just want to try new builds, new champs, or fool around. Knowing the players' intentions will better allow us to place them in games that match their expectations and goals.

Right now, it is difficult for the matchmaker to predict what your intentions when you hit "Play!" However, this is an issue that might be worth figuring out.
