Being a 'skilled' player in MOBAs is not about being a great individual player--it is about your ability to contribute to your team's win. I would rather see team-oriented metrics where we encourage the team as a whole to perform better to get small adjustments to their Elo gains/losses as a team--not to any individual player.
I disagree, there are PLENTY of team leaders in this game, and people at times just lack common sense or cannot follow directions or refuse to. There are times when there is more than 1 leader in a game and both parties could be right or just one party could be right or neither party could be right.
Individual play has A VERY VERY VERY heavy toll in solo queue. Let's say top lane dominates his lane the entire game. This snowballs down to middle then bottom lane and chances are they win the game because the other team starts pointing fingers and gets frustrated and loses because of it. Now lets say a team fight occurs with the same example. One player that is decently skilled can and WILL turn the team fight in favor for their team (they carry the entire team).
If this was truly a team game, all aspects of this game would be equal down to each player. This would turn out more stalemates which is not the case. There are ALWAYS 1-2 players that outshine the rest in solo queue. Arranged, you figure everyone is about the same skill level and everyone even the support can help carry or do better than the rest (see Xpecial on TSM, hardly dies gets butt loads of assists while the rest of the team gets large amounts of deaths but a decent amount of kills). What I see Riot TRYING to do is turn solo queue into arranged. This in and of itself is 100% wrong. You cannot expect 5 random players to click well together for a great deal of the time. You cannot expect solo queue to be a team game. There is always going to be that 1 individual (sometimes 2 or even 3) that CARRY the game. This is why pro players obtain the top elos the fastest. Their individual performance flat out can carry their team.
Trying to expect solo queue to be played like arranged is like expecting a mongoose and a snake to be the best of friends. It just is not possible nor will it ever be no matter what you try and throw into it. It needs to be understood that solo and arranged are two different "animals" in their own way. Arranged everyone plays for the better of the team and builds around their team. Solo queue is greed from the champion select. "I'm top elo I know best","Mid or feed", "Top of afk". Then down to the champions you pick. "I can only play rumble" or picking things that don't work well together like an akali with a teemo. Also how last pick is expected to pretty much play support. IT IS ALL GREED. Solo queue really is an abomination and I personally believe that it has no business in ranked if you cannot grade people on individual performance.
People do well and people do bad you cannot hide it. People get carried nearly every game by 1 or more people, it is shown in almost every game. Unless you are playing at a professional level in a tournament then chances are you are not playing with equally skilled players. This is why arranged exists; you can actually say THIS is where TEAMS play. THIS is where working TOGETHER is EXPECTED.
If you want solo queue to be a part of this game fine, but then remove it from ranked because it does not deserve to be there then. This is why match making has so many issues. It really flat out is solo queue. League is a team game, always was and always will be if you want to rate play as a team then just make arranged team as the ONLY ranked ladder. Leave solo queue for normal draft and blind pick. That way it goes back to normal where solo queue is the place to flat out have fun and be decent like it once was. If you want to bull**** there fine, but within reason and not intentionally going out to hurt other people's play experience (hunting and harassing your own jungler etc).
Arranged is the only queue that should have EVER been allowed for ranked because it's TRUE team work. You are personally selecting 4 other players you feel are close to your skill level and that you trust them as team mates and feel you have a good chance to succeed with. It is a controlled environment with little to no surprises; unlike solo queue which is not a controlled environment and has a variety of surprises from ragers to afkers to players not in your skill bracket.
