Philosophy, academically demanding? This I need to hear. Although truth be told, anybody from outside LnS is secretly mocking LnS students. Huehue. Except the math majors, they're scary.

What details would you like? I don't have much more than I posted, it wasn't a super detailed log - just game type and whether or not it had a troll / leaver. They were all normal games and on this account.

Just what mode you played in, what Elo range (if it was Ranked), and who did you play with.

You didn't know Philosophy didn't yield 'practical utility' until you read this thread? When I started to pursue philosophy, it's ALL I heard from family and friends (though in different words) for years.
If you want the practical side of philosophy, you should get into ethics and political philosophy. The ideas produced/promoted there will determine what the future of the world looks like, including how much/if the sciences continue to be advanced.
Without philosophy, scientists are mere technicians- they need reasons to explore certain things and not others, boundaries, and a human society worth serving with the fruits of their labors. Knowledge for it's own sake is a myth.

I didnt write all of that down, but i do know that all of the games were normals and i believe all or most of them i queued solo. All the games in that list that dont specifically say dominion were summoners rift games.

Hey, Lyte.
I, too, am a fan of a psychologist in game design. I have my undergraduate in psych, and I did a year of Master's work at the studying a variety of cog neuro topics (mostly attention and task switching, as that was my lab's focus). I've considered going into the game industry when I complete some further education.
I was curious, since you seem to know your way around a graduate program, and because you apparently worked around the area, what would you think about a graduate program in User Centered Design and Engineering from U.W.? It doesn't seem to offer much in the way of programming expertise, but do you think it would have enough industry clout to get my foot in the door?

This sounds pretty fascinating. I have always enjoyed optical illusions, especially the kind that still baffle me even after I know how they work.

I think this may be part of why I enjoy League of Legends so much: That the Riot team is comprised of such a diverse group of innovators like yourself. You are all able to bring so many different viewpoints together that the sheer creativity is phenomenal. I would like to applaud you and your colleagues for the tremendous effort you put forth to deliver a quality product to this community, though a fickle group we can be at times.

I am finding more and more how much I enjoy browsing the forums just to find posts like this one. Your dedication to be involved speaks volumes about what kind of company you want to be.

On a side note, do you have any advice for someone majoring in "What am I doing here"? I have run the possibility of trying to (someday) get a job with Riot through my mind countless times, but I know that the standards there are incredibly high (again, this is evident in the quality of your work, so thank you!).

Anyway, thanks again for all your hard work.

+1 for the Reds, guys.

I do neuroscience research as well (three people have noticed my summoner name in game, and I am sure many people reading this thread will too). I've studied cognitive neuroscience but I tend to enjoy the neurobiology a bit more to the point where animal studies are the norm for electrophysiology, neural anatomy, and up to behavior. I focus on vision and memory but keep up to date on everything from sleep, drugs, mood disorders, and more.

I'd love to talk more with you all. I'm posting a short blurb here now to subscribe to the thread and would love to discuss / play with people with similar interests

Though I do work on vision and memory none of it is explicitly related to video games. However, I do read the odd video game related study every so often as I incidentally come across them. There's one really great one that comes to mind that I'll post about tomorrow. We'll see where this thread goes but great to hear about you Lyte and fellow summoners who both work with and are interested in the brain!!
