As an openly gay guy, it's very difficult for me to ignore the constant stream of "that's gay" or "you f-ggot" etc that is constantly spewed in the game. And the worst part is that it even happens with people who I know and who know me and that I am out, and it's so ingrained in our culture that they just say it by accident. I don't have a fragile ego, and someone saying "that's gay" specifically isn't going to make me upset or ruin my day. I am just sad and disappointed that something as fun and engaging as our team-based game experience is frequently ruined by the complete and total lack of respect some people have for their fellow players.

Misogyny, homophobia, racism, and any other kind of discrimination are NOT TOLERATED. Please use your report buttons when this occurs. We do listen, and we do review these cases all the time. I always laugh a little when I see tribunal reports of someone who is being a jerk saying "GO AHEAD REPORT ME NOTHING WILL HAPPEN" because then I get to press PUNISH! MWA HA HA!!!! >:-D

And like Lyte, davin, and Iron Stylus said, we are always working on ways to make the community less toxic. Lyte & davin sit directly behind me, so they could tell you quite a few stories of me ranting about player behavior in our game (especially since homophobia is something that directly affects me). I truly, truly love this community to tears. This is the best community I've ever been a part of, and the sheer amount of support and acceptance gushed at me is staggering and humbling. It's a terrible shame than an extremely vocal minority of players can have such a large, toxic, negative impact, and I can assure you that player behavior is being scrutinized closely and very intelligent people like the devs who have posted in this thread are exploring a huge range of solutions.

We want League of Legends to be the best gaming experience possible! Be strong, and stand up to those who are being jerks. Slowly but surely we will make this community change over time, and Riot stands firm behind you to support this change.

you're a wonderful person and I love you =) I'm a guy living with my male fiance, and it's really touching and humbling to see a red post so bravely and constructively.

When X% of a group find something negative, and the remainder find it neutral, is it better to do it or not do it? Do those that are neutral to it lose anything by not doing it? Nope. Do those that find it negative gain anything by not doing it? Definitely yes.

Sounds like not doing it has only positive potential consequences, and doing it has only negative potential consequences.

Why is it so hard to just not do it then? What possible reason could you have for continuing to do it?

So while were on this subject, I've noticed you guys have never commented on all the "Girl gamer" threads. There's a huge group of people that say you should completely hide your gender and just act as a Male, and if you don't you should be called out because you're "just asking for it" These girls have been called so many atrocious things for just mentioning that they were female.

What is Riots stance on this? Should girls have to avoid being represented as a girl, meaning absolutely not picking a girl name or girly name as there Screen name? Or do you think these guys should stop harassing them?

This is an important issue and I'm interested in what you guys have to say. Please respond as this is a growing issue. Thank you for your time if you read my post.

Incoming downvotes to prove my point. > . <

You aren't, but I personally think you should find it offensive and I've explained why.

If suddenly half of everyone thought the n-word was not offensive, would it be okay?

If context determines meaning via intent, it also determines meaning via reception. If you're saying something that you know is causing someone harm, why keep doing it? It's not a particularly large imposition to choose other words. Minimizing suffering seems like a pretty sweet thing to do!

If we're a group that value free speech, we should also respect the power thereof. There's no hypocrisy in simultaneously championing free speech and choosing not to say some things.

You're unbelievable.

If someone finds something offensive, then it's extremely rude to continue to use whatever phrase or behavior they find offensive.

On the other hand, if the person using the offensive phrase or behavior doesn't find it offensive, but they know someone else does, then they should have no problem stopping said behavior, because they know it's hurting someone else.

If they don't stop based on your insane principle, then I'd be amazed if they're able to function in society.

No offense, but I find that taking offense to a random person over the internet saying "gay" in all chat to be overly sensitive. I think that a lot of the issues with this subject have to do, unfortunately, with the tribunal and the fact that there is a punishment system in place. I know that everything is supposed to be politically correct, and everybody should be respectful and polite, but the reality is that this is nothing but an online video game and be treated as such.

If people are saying "You are a **** **** kill yourself irl ****", they should be banned. If someone gets killed and says "That's gay" in all chat, maybe we should realize that this person may not be educated about how this statement can be offense. He is not saying, "That is very homosexual male", he's saying "That was dumb". Is it the correct, or respectful, thing to say? Absolutely not. But I'd like to think that people have tough enough skin not to take DIRECT offense from what people in this game type into chat, when they have no idea what race, gender, or sexual orientation that you are.

I enjoy games more when there is a little trash talking back and forth. I want to be able to say "DUNKED" when I outplay somebody, and at the same time I want them to say the same exact thing when they outplay me. The community as a whole has gotten extremely sensitive and is always just looking for reasons to punish people, and I believe that this needs to change.

I am not saying that you guys should not make it a goal to work towards a more respectful, friendly player base. But at the same time, realize that in this game you have countless individuals from different backgrounds, ages, upbringings, and education levels, and that maybe not everything is meant to be a direct insult to a certain group of people.
