Definitely felt an impact from the new visuals on my FPS (though they are absolutely beautiful). The game went from shifting around 52-61, to 40-48.

Specs are as follows
OS: Win XP SP3
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 250 3.0 GHz
RAM: 3GB DDR2
GFX: 8800 GS 512MB Nvidia

If anything else is needed, can edit in.

Everything was Very High, and tried shifting frame rates from Stable, Benchmark, etc. Benchmark resulted in best FPS. Also, no VSync and Color Blind was toggled to check if there was FPS alteration, there was none.

Resolution was 1920x1080.

Edit: double checked frame rate drop. Live actually runs around 58-72. Owwie frames dropped.

We did up the quality for Very High, to increase the graphics for people with the best of the best computers. This means that some people who had been playing on Very High may need to bump Environment Quality down to High. That should restore your performance, but still give you better graphics than you used to have.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Just wanted to be certain I wasn't crazy.

Interesting. Dropped Shadows to High, and gained back all the FPS I lost. Pro tip: lower shadows first.

:-/

Since spectator mode hit, fps is already incredibly problematic. The game every so often goes from my stable 58-60 fps, to 30. It happens a lot. It didn't happen until spectator mode hit.

This seems like things will get even tougher.

One of the major focuses of this graphics update was to improve the look of Summoner's Rift AND improve the performance of Summoner's Rift. Take it for a spin, and see if your frame rate doesn't improve.

I'm running a crappy laptop with an integrated graphics card and I can say that my fps has generally gone up with this update, on the same settings as the normal server (ie. very low lol). Before I had 20-30 fps that could drop lower in teamfights, now it's around 30-40, which is a pretty nice improvement. Very low with these textures also looks leagues better than very low with the previous ones. The old textures on low settings were blurry and washed out while very low now still retains a good amount of detail and sharpness. I can't speak for higher end computers but for the stated purpose of touching up the graphics while improving performance on low-spec rigs, it's definitely done just that.

So yeah, it's been working great for me. Props to the Riot techies that made this possible.

Thanks. But it wasn't just the work of the techies. The environment artists played a huge role in improving the performance. It truly was a team effort.
