An issue about the tribunal has recently come to my attention. Some of the actual swearing in chat logs occurs in other languages (e.g. Portuguese and Spanish). How can fellow tribunal members judge these cases? Alas, I believe they cannot. Consequently, they have two options: they punish or pardon without proper understanding of the case, or skip.

However, if they skip, how will the case be judged? I honestly do not believe there are many portuguese speakers in the tribunal community to acquire the required number of votes. And these people really deserve bans! Speaking as a person fluent in Portuguese and with sufficient knowledge of spanish, there are some things there that are WAY more offensive than many of the things I see in english.

Things such as (and this is relatively moderate):

"Tunic0 (Jax) [00:12:04] : PKE DESKOBRI Q SUA MAE TINHA PINTO"

translation: Because I found out your mom has a d***.

And it's not exactly the type of thing you can pop in a translator and get the line in english, considering it has abbreviations and such that most translators do not understand.

I'd like to know how you guys deal with this situation, and if there is anything Riot, or myself, can do to help in these cases. Because the way this is going, this kind of people just bets on their impunity based on the fact that others do not understand the humongous amount of garbage they are saying

Cheers!

If you don't speak the language, you have to skip (unless they've said something wrong in English, then punish).

Yes, and that's exactly my point! NOBODY is going to judge these cases, and these people will just get off the hook...

I just feel very wrong that these people, who blatantly deserve perma-bans, go unpunished...

I believe the Tribunal makes sure a certain number of people judge a case before a verdict is final. If 92 people need to click Skip so that it can go through the 8 people who happen to speak Portuguese, I think the system still works.

And honestly, I'd be surprised if cases that get mad Skipped aren't automatically flagged for review by the support team, only because anything that gets a ton of Skips has to be a unique case.

I mean, I'd love a Rioter to come in and be like "Yeah, we got it covered, no worries," but I don't think cases ever expire. Like, if the first 15 people to see a case Skip it because they don't speak the language, I don't think they just throw the case out.

If Riot reviews all cases that reach the potential-suspension stage, does that mean there are people at Riot that speak all applicable languages?

Tribunal isn't restricted to english speakers--so the non-english speakers deal with the non-english cases.

Hey there! You raise a perfectly valid point regarding the language barrier one might encounter while playing our game. As of now there isn't any kind of routing or case assignment based on languages. It is definitely something that could help in the future and we are actively trying to solve these problems. As Metronomotopoeia pointed out in a reply in this thread, the case won't be closed until it reaches a certain threshold of Punish and Pardon votes. Skip votes do not contribute to this total. So, if you come across a case that you can't read or understand you can simply Skip it and continue onto the next one. That's very awesome that you speak multiple languages.

That is very helpful in judging cases in the Tribunal. Keep up the good work!

While you're at it, please add an option to report people for playing while drunk/high.
