one would ponder to pose such a question to humanity in general, not just an online gaming community

Love you!

But seriously, I'm not sure how to do anything about this other than what we've been trying. It's such a fine line to balance between freedom of expression and creating a comfy community.

I'm a bit of a strict person when it comes to the language I use to other people. If we went by my rules, almost no one would be able to say anything really. However, I know this about myself. So I'm not sure what we can do to make things more enjoyable for everyone.

But as a start, we have to realize that we have no place to be indignant about the rules to maintain civility. While both Canada and the US have laws about freedom of speech, that doesn't cover the rule to follow the rules of any given institution you willingingly join. Place like schools, churches, stores, movie theaters, etc all have rules for behavior. If you do not follow them, you get kicked out. The law lets these places make their own rules as such. If it is the rule to be civil to players here, then we must all follow it.

But too many people think they are entitled to speak with callous and cruel intent to others. If we can change that mind set, then perhaps we can make some headway with the community.

How about starting by not glamorizing the public ridicule of banned players, new players, and people who we have disagreements with.

I don't think 1900+ players have bad attitudes generally speaking. I think that people need to learn some humility and just accept that there are people better than them and if you ARE better than someone you should help them out, not yell "LOL GG BADDIES" at the end.

Elementz, I really appreciate what you're doing. Not all top players reach out to the general audience like this, we all know that top Elo isn't the worst scenario in the game and most top players just ignore what happens down below.

I must tell you, though, that what you're saying won't change anything. I am 25 years old and I am already doing my best to be a positive asset. I have never played a competitive game before League and during my almost 2 years experience with League I have turned from a very shy and polite person to a hard boiled rager who needs to go out of his way to keep his tongue at bay. Even when I talk on the forums I tend to be rather bitter, snide and kind of a ******bag, which is something I don't really recognize myself into.

But I have to say it's just a defensive mechanism. The people in this community can turn everyone. Literally everyone, into a rabid rager. They go out of their way, sometimes, to ruin your experience of a competitive game. Riot doesn't seem to care to put a divide between normal (casual) play and ranked (competitive) play. If you complain about someone's troll pick you end up getting banned for negative attitude.

I think this all started with the badges thing. It's funny how people react to my posts here or straight up trash talk because they look up my profile and they see I'm a level 6 smurf on US even though it's obvious I know what I'm talking about. Everyone is 100% focused on getting their ego shoved deep into the game, every little kid with parent issues is vomiting all his lack of self-confidence into this game. So this is not a game anymore and you're trying to restore something that's being swallowed by the cancer of anonymous users.

TL DR: That's the internet for you.

Most trolls feel entitled to trollpick and annoy the competitive players in their team, as there's a system that backs them up. In theory, the Tribunal works. The problem is that it's not working the right way.

League as of now is a casual game (if it can be called a game at all, as I said). There's nothing competitive left in it because competitive players are punished for being competitive. It's just a giant chatroom where people happen to play a MOBA game, but that's a secondary activity. The spotlight is all on anonymously venting one's frustration on other people.

Riot doesn't care, so yeah.

What would you do? I quit the game btw. I just don't give a **** anymore, and I'm pretty sure a lot of people will drop the challenge because there's no challenge. When noone takes the game as such, there's no game left to play.

Upvoted and bumped to make League more of a gentlemen's sport!

We can all agree that Gentlemen Cho'Gath is awesome anyway, and he'll refuse to play with scoundrels that troll.
