Dear Riot Games,
For many, many months now you have been growing on me. Not just your awesome game. There are a lot of awesome games out there, now. Heck, I still crack open Civilization II, Lode Runner, Sim City2000 and Heroes of Might and Magic. What separates you from the pack is your relentless devotion to detail, constant imagination, fun-loving attitude and absolutely AWESOME customer support.
To Lomar--who is probably a lawyer, but has Brolaf as his profile picture--your post about youtube videos and advertisements brought a huge smile to my face. And this is from someone who has never and does not plan to make youtube videos with LoL content in them. Not only did you entitle it "Legal Jibber Jabber", you made it easy to read and relevant to players. Way to go.
To Morello--The fact that you spend your 1AMs on the forums flabbergasts me. Your constant, Quixotic crusades to dispel notions like "Riot just wants to make money and doesn't care about players!" is awesome. Your willingness to make live design transparent--this is what the problem is, this is what caused the problem, and this is what we want to do to fix it-- has taught me so much that I didn't know I didn't know.
To Pendragon. Don't tell anyone else, but you are my favorite rioter. I can't imagine what it must be like to be constantly in contact with the most toxic elements of the internet. That fact that you, again and again, prove that the internet doesn't have to devolve into racist and homophobic arguments is my favorite part about this game. People who say that LoL has a toxic community does not remember what the community of other internet communities looks like. Good job.
To Xypherous. Dude. You are so smart. The reason everyone loves your champions so much is that you take so much pride in revealing what you were trying to do. I'm absolutely certain that other champ designers put the same amount of work into their champions as you do into yours, but your willingness to try and show what you were trying to achieve gives a special savor to you champions. It was a sad day when you said you were done with champ design for a while, and I hope you can come back soon. Also, given how frighteningly smart you obviously are, your willingness to discuss game design with the community, argue, and then take away things from the community (rather than defend your opinions to the death, disregarding viewpoints that don't agree with you) is truly inspiring.
To IronStylus. You represent everything I love about this company. That you, an artist with no particular attachment to live design or player behavior are willing to cheerfully inject yourself into community discussion (with all the pleasures and pains that that brings) is something I wish employees at other companies can do. It is easy to forget that gaming companies are usually full of gamers. You remind everyone that YOU guys care as much about this game as WE do.
To Phreak. You are my favorite streamer, bar none. I have watched every game you have ever commented, most of them with my girlfriend (we're in a long distance relationship, and we often watch tournaments and streamers together to keep in touch). Your aggressiveness and commentary are great fun to watch and to listen to (often professional gamers have boring, low-risk systems, and I'm glad that you do not). However, you need to stream more often (minor critique, I know you're busy).
I'm sorry I can't single out every single red to give them my regards (although I would like to). I know that I'm giving credit to one person (like Pendragon) where it belongs to the entire tribunal team including Wookiecookie, Lyte and all the rest. Rest assured, you may not be named in my letter, but I do not feel less love for you than anyone named here (except for whoever nerfed Jarvan. We can never be friends.) You guys make an awesome, awesome game, but more than that have crafted an awesome, rewarding, engaging experience that I hope will continue forever.
Yours Forever,
Seeker
