Vaurnbarn,

Since you are the only red to respond on this sub-forum in like the last year and half I'll direct this to you. I think this would be a great idea for Champion Select in Draft mode games...

At this moment, if it is your turn to pick and you do not own a champion that someone else wants you pick for them, you can not choose it. So let's say the 5th pick would gladly play support or jungle and the team is excited. If they want to play Leona or Lulu, two of the expensive supports, you may not own them as the 1st pick. This forces you to not pick the support your team wants and hope it is still there at 5th pick.

It is common practice in high elo to early pick support, jungle, and AD because they are more difficult to hard counter. So even in Normal Draft, it would be beneficial to have the option to do this as well, especially for those of us who only own about 1/2 the champs.

My solution, make all champions owned by your team available to drag on drop onto the member that wants it. So if I'm 1st pick and my 5th pick wants me to choose Leona I could drag her picture to my teammate and drop it in. When you drag the champion, maybe even the members of your team that don't own that champ could be greyed or crossed out as not able to play that champion. Then, once you place the champion on your ally, they would be the one to lock in so that abuse could be avoided like here, you get to play EVE and like it 4th pick huehuehue.

Let's say that the 1st pick selects the support for the 5th pick, the next time picks roll around for their team, they get the chance to select their champ or pick for another teammate. This continues until the highest priority summoner select their champ, then it moves down to the next player on the team to do the same until all 5 champs are selected.

I know nothing of coding and client development, but I KNOW that everyone in the community would LOVE this. What do you think?

Does ANYONE have thoughts on this? Does this sound like a good idea? Did I miss any problems with this concept? What do you think?

This is an interesting idea, and I'm generally in favor of anything that gives you better control over your experience. In this case, players would be more likely to receive a preferred champion, which probably results in a happier player and maybe a better team composition.

Just thinking out loud here: What you're describing sounds like some sort of "pre-trade trade" system. The player on the receiving end could be prompted to accept or decline the picker's proposed champion. If a player accepts, they should probably be blocked from receiving any more propositions this way. Once everyone has selected, the pre-trades will be processed, and those who picked for other teammates will get whatever champion those teammates ended up with (perhaps itself the result of a pre-trade).

I'm not sure if this would be the most elegant solution (Some problems can come up that I didn't address), but it definitely brings up some good talking points about things that can be improved in champion selection. Thanks for writing out your suggestion!

Ah snap, Bahamut!!!

Yes, a pre-trade is sort of the concept. It would look like this...

Player 1 on your team gets very first pick

Player 5 says hey, pick me Leona, I'll support

Player 1 drops Leona (who they don't own in this scenario) into Player 5's slot, PLAYER 5 Locks in (or chooses to decline if someone is trolling and not picking the right champ or they change their mind)

*Enemy Team picks 2 champs*

Players 1 and 2 for your team now get to pick and they can choose for themselves or drag and drop another champion for players 3 or 4

And so forth until all champions are picked...

I think this would definitely lead to not only better pregame communication but also a more happy experience because players would get the chance to pick champs for their team even if they don't own them. EVERYONE WINS!!!

I have no idea if this could ever be a possiblity. BTW, get more reds in on this subforum, it's kind of an important one because your frontline client is people's first impressions of your game.

I'm trying to figure out an abuse case for this, but nothing's coming up. It seems really great, which makes me pause, but at the same time it seems really great.

I don't see an abuse case either because person who is being picked for is the one who has to lock in the choice. As it stands now, solo queue trading can sometimes go one of four ways...

Player 5: Pick me Leona, I'll support
Player 1: Ok *Picks Leona* Pick me Ashe
Player 5: Sounds Good *Picks Ashe on their turn*

Player 5: Pick me Leona, I'll support
Player 1: Don't have her, you'll have to pick her yourself *Picks Ashe
Enemy Team Picks Leona
Player 5: Crud

Player 5: Pick me Leona, I'll support
Player 1: Ok *Picks Leona* Pick me Ashe
Player 5: Don't have Ashe
Player 1: Crud

Player 5: Pick me Leona, I'll support
Player 1: Ok *Picks Leona* Pick me Ashe
Player 5: Actually, I don't want to play Leona so you do it
Player 1: Crud

Doing something like I proposed would eliminate all of the bad options above. In 3 of the 4 of those scenarios, SOMEONE is unhappy. Make it happen RiotBahamut!!! FOR NARNIA!!!

What would be the difference from just allowing trades for champions you do not own? This also allows you to retain the pick order, something your system would otherwise circumvent.

The ONLY ONLY issue I could see is if the first pick doesn't select the champ that let's say the last pick wants...and instead selects them someone else. Although that would be easily mitigated by just having the person that is getting their champ selected for them agree to the selection in client. A simple "Yes/No" thing.

I've never played a ranked/draft game since I'm new, so I'm not 100% sure how it works.

Would it be easier if teammates can either swap priorities or decide for themselves for priorities? Seems like a simpler way of fixing the same problem. Or would it break everything?
