I wanted to say something about this, it seems like you're attributing Urgot's small "Fan base" entirely to his physical design when I really don't think that's the case.
I was going to buy urgot maybe a month ago, but I tried him out on the PBE first and realized that he's simply got a playstyle I'm really opposed to. He's an ad carry (or at least fills the role) But he's all about zoning in lane which is kind of boring, and doesn't get you any of those awesome triple-penta kills that other ad carries get late game once they've got IE PD because he builds tanky instead of with a lot of dmg. He also doesn't set up any of those awesome plays in lane like you'll see from something like graves + taric, or vayne + ali.
Tanky champions like nautilus and stuff can be fun, but with those sort of champs you're going to be in the middle of a fight, with urgot it feels like after I ult it's pretty much me doing nothing but trying to hit my skill shot and spamming q for meh dmg.
But more than that he's got a very, very specific playstyle, meaning if you're good at ad carries you're not necessarily going to be good at urgot. If you can play graves well, chances are you'll be able to pick up someone like ashe without much of a problem, but with urgot you're going to need to play a lot of games to get to get decent with him, something most people aren't willing to put in (I didn't really think it was worth it).
So I ended up getting graves instead, so I wouldn't need to completely relearn how to play an adc for a playstyle I don't have much fun with anyways.
edit: Also wanted to add, Streamers don't use him in solo queue, if you look at a lot of the really well played champs it's because hotshot, aphro, and oddone are playing them in solo queue.
