Thanks for taking the time to respond Morello.
You make good points, but I think you are uninformed in this aspect of your post.

This doesn't mean it should be changed back (for the above points) but instead it's important we try to choose appropriate names when either creating or changing. It seems the outcry here is largely that this name sounds "too cool" for Lux, who is a softer-style character (though to this, Prismatic Barrier and Lucent Singularity are pretty "epic fantasy" names as well).

It is actually the complete opposite. There are a few who have come to the threads saying that they like Infinite Light, but the vast majority of people that are speaking out about this either say they want the name changed back
or they want a better replacement. Many people find the name to be extremely bland and witless. I personally don't find anything "cool" about the name. Infinite is even used by another champ in the form of Infinite Duress.
I gave up on the changing back side of the argument quite a while ago as Riot has made many decent points for changing it in the first place. I don't agree with the points made in some cases, but at least there was thought put in to them. On the other hand I am incredibly disappointed in the new name that was chosen. Many other players are as well. Some like it, but many don't.
Given the opportunity to change an ability's name should have been a goldmine of an opportunity for some creative input to tie in some lore to the ability. Even a simple tip of the hat to Demacia and her brother Garen would be a decent move in the form of Demacian _____ (insert your own inspired noun). Lux has one of the coolest looking ultimates that is instantly recognizable upon casting and the name Infinite Light does it no justice.
I've probably spent too much time typing this and lost you, but hopefully you get a chance to read this.
Thanks again for stopping by!
