Adding more options for custom games is something we've kicked around, but adding a map editor would be a massive undertaking.

Most games that ship with an editor are built from the ground up with that technology integrated. The editor is typically the same tool, or a modified version of it, used by the development team to create the game's content. In the case of LoL, the game was originally built to focus upon a single map, so a robust map editor was not critical to shipping the game and would have delayed it considerably. Remember Riot was a small start-up back in those days, so those were the tough choices the team had to make.

Retro-fitting an editor, along with the various systems required to support community use of it, into an established product requires a tremendous amount of work. Any time we commit to a project at Riot we have to ask ourselves: "What are we NOT doing as a result of choosing to do this project?" In the case of a map editor the opportunity cost is exceptionally high. That doesn't mean we'll never do it or don't want to. It's just not a high priority at this moment in time.

Well, not an editor, but have you considered the relatively simple idea of just adding a bunch of stuff players can fiddle with? Change available champions and items, change gold per 5, make champions bigger or smaller, make all champions invisible, make all champions slow or fast, etc. Like smash bros custom settings.

Might as well do it since you're obviously not using your time to balance your game.

Not to criticize but whenever I see someone make a sensible suggestion or whatnot all i ever see is a riot employee say... "Sounds like a good idea but it would take a lot of work and is not a high priority" So when is something that is worth doing no hard work and what is high priority? Is it just releasing more champions or making super expensive skins that is a high priority? Again, not trying to criticize or anything i really do love the game but sometimes it seems like really insignificant things are high priority like changing things for the sake of change or adding a new shopkeeper or ward skins... I'd just like to see some good ideas paid attention to especially if the oppertunity it is costing us is only a couple ward skins or some such thing i'd have to pay for anyway. I do realize it is a business and you have to make money but i know many people spend much more on this game than xbox live or AAA titles like COD.

Wow thanks Rj, truly an honor.

Yeah, i see where you come from now with the map editor, perhaps it is too far out. I hope you do see my point on customs, it seems a bit silly, but it really opens windows for alot players who need a different outlet for enjoyment in league. I just hope it is somewhere near the replay system in list of priorities, because imo, its one of the frontiers in moba games that can be really great.

I feel like you jumped to the editor part and left out the other a bit, i now know the feasibility of the map maker, but hopefully added custom options is feasible?

Thanks for responding

More custom game options would be much more likely than a map editor in the near future, though I can't make any promises about what those options would be or when we'd deliver them.
