The Reason Why they prevented this in the first place was because there were a substantial number of players that duo queued with plat players or made teams for the purposes of getting plat in twisted treeline for the end of the season rewards. While they clamped down on the issue to prevent new people that joined teams from getting plat unless they earned it, there are still quite a number of 3 v 3 plat players that simply do not deserve it or the end of the season rewards.
