The suggestion is this (look at bottom for TL/DR):
Implement a feature where, before going into queue, summoners can pick up to 5 champions that they main or want to play. This will be visible to all teammates during the draft phase.
Not everyone owns every champion. Even if they do, not everyone owns enough rune pages to play a role correctly. This is not like DoTa.
This will allow players higher up in the picking order to pick based off of their team mates' preferences. Many times, other players won't respond to "what do you want to play?" in the queue chat, and sometimes this results in very skewed champion compositions. It can be very frustrating when you ask, "can anyone tank?" and getting no response. Taking the gamble to play your best champion (annie/urgot/whatever) results in no tanks on your team. You were totally willing to tank for you team, but nobody spoke up.
Even when you have responsive team mates, sometimes it can be very confusing. A wall of text where people all announce their best 4 champions in order can be impossible to understand in time to make a wise pick.
Other possible ideas:
1. Allow people to check subcategories such as "tank," "support" "AP carry," or "jungle" instead of specific champions.
2. Allow people to notify team mates what they AREN'T good at pre-draft.
Possible issues
Some may think that this will lead to more flaming. IE: somebody sees no jungler/tank in their team will instantly start calling his entire team noobs. However, I don't think this is really that big of a deal. He would have found out later ANYWAY, and this allows more reasonable players to see that there is a team comp problem ahead of time and maybe fill in the missing roles.
Another issue might be players that use their preferences as justification. IE: "I said I only play AP carry so STFU. You saw it in my preferences!" Again, yes, but these kind of ******s would have done it anyway. This isn't making the problem worse at all, just easier to solve.

This will work.. until you see all 5 people on your team have the subcategory "Carry" under their name.

If this is implemented, you would have been able to fill in before you knew what your teammates were picking. The whole point of this is just to give people an idea what their teammates are like if they are unresponsive during predraft chat.

I like the idea, but there are a couple of issues:
- How would it be displayed? This would be a lot of information to take in, and the time until first pick is locked in is already way to short to get to know your team and agree on a strategy (if, as you say, they talk at all). Normals are a bit better off though. Picking roles would be slightly better than picking champions, I think, but still messy business. (I wouldn't mind if first pick was allowed more time...) - How would it be selected? People are already too lazy to talk in team chat, so doing it after entering a game wouldn't work. Forcing players to do it before queuing up might actually work, but it'd be a hassle tbh. Some kind of persistent settings would be nice, and they could be displayed on your profile, too ![]() I doubt something like this would make the situation worse, and it would definitely help in some cases. However, it sounds like an awful lot of work considering all the changes we've seen in the Air client recently. Also, PvP.NET feedback forum may be what you're looking for. |
Anyhow, here's what I was imagining..
You mouse over that person's name during drafting phase, and a bar will slide out displaying five champions that this player wants to play. Or, a sidebar could slide out of the left side of the interface with that players listed preferences.
As for how it would be selected, it will be similar to your summoner icon. Players will be forced to have one upon doing ranked, but theres no way to force players to do it legitimately.
TL/DR: Show teammates who you are best at without having to ask.
Please BUMP so that it gets more attention!
