You are completely missing the point of the original post...
In fact, you saying
I do not think a single battle that early on makes a huge difference if the teams are even and if your team is actually trying
is a dead giveaway that you did not read carefully since the whole point of the post is that the teams were not even and this created an obvious disadvantage.
Rather or not the Windmill fight would have changed something is irrelevant. What is relevant is that there was a player on your team that was AFK FOR REASONS WITHIN HIS CONTROL
at a crucial time. The other team had an obvious advantage that led to them getting an early lead. If the game was very close, then suddenly the Windmill fight was incredibly important.
Plus, if your team decided to do a 3v4 windmill fight, the enemy team had a huge gold advantage since it is obvious they would have won that fight with little trouble. There are times when I was one man short on my team and my team decided to just give up the windmill and immediate gank bot since we knew we would lose windmill and we figured we might as well deny them the easy gold.
In Dominion, every part of the game is important. Being gone for five minutes is pretty much being gone one-fifth of the time. That's like playing a Summoner's Rift game and having someone be gone for 10 minutes, which is majority of the laning phase. The lanning phase, the part of the game where you level up, farm, and buy the foundation for your powerful late game items. Meaning, if you were gone during this time, you screwed your team over for the rest of the game. At least on SR, you can snowball incredibly hard and make up the slack. In Dom, it is incredibly hard to get to that snowball level.
Edit: Also, often times, AFK'er are gone way longer than just the windmill fight. I've had ones who came back as late as five seconds before the game ended.
