It is. But you will only understand that if you understand that 0.9 repeating is a real number, not something that approaches a number. Without that understanding it may be hard to grasp.

No; he is exactly wrong. The square root of 1 has 2 solutions: -1 and 1. By ignoring -1, which is the solution he's supposed to use, all the equations he made after are false.
