The real kicker is, I genuinely wanted DotA2 to be good. I wanted it to be a game worth playing, to expand the MOBA genre (though I think it's a little telling that Valve refuses to refer to it as a MOBA, which is the community-accepted term for this gametype). I wanted LoL to have real competition--someone they'd have to fight against tooth and nail to keep themselves at the head of the pack.
But we're not getting that. We're getting a lame duck with some shiny feathers glued on it. If you already play LoL over DotA, there is no reason to ever play DotA2, because it is literally the exact same thing. They copied it wholesale, flaws, limitations of the WC3 game engine, and all. They literally did nothing, and unthinking fanboys will treat it like gold.
My one consolation in all this is that Dominion proves Riot has no plans to slow down or stop innovating--we still have one company willing to move the genre into the future with fresh ideas.
