Volibear I think was based off the armored bear from the Golden compass movie/Northen Lights book.

Don't even mention that movie, the book sure. But that movie was horrible, botched the rest of the series.

They done the same with Eragon, Ruined the movie but the books are amazing.

Anyway, on topic, I think Akalis silverfang skin might be inspired by Smoke from the new MK?

I'd say Veigar is a black mage from Final Fantasy, not just Vivi.

The commando skins are a big nod to Warhammer 40K's Imperial Guard (Lux's helmet, Garen's armor, Jarvan's cap and the like), but that's fictional.

Mordekaiser is a walking reference to heavy metal music.

But the only other Champion I can think that is connected to real life is Xin Zhao, who looks and has a story similar to Zhao Yun from the Three Kingdoms period of China.
