There are a few strong mid lane champs. Annie, Ez, Heimer, and Morde to name a few.

And who says Ashe is getting a nerf soon? Is there a post about it I'm missing?

Ashe was never the best. Currently I'd say Ezreal, Annie, and maybe Corki and Nidalee are the best solo mids.

Yeah Ashe was never the best. Her Volley is a little bugged but you can work around it. A defensive specced Tryndamere can get in her face and push her out of lane, and that's saying something.
