I assume to play Blitzcrank as Utility/Offtank/DPS, maximizing the grab and letting the carries eat up the enemies, having his dps hit the backburner.

What is the best item to optimize the laning phase? HPreg or Mana reg? He has no self heal, so I felt like getting HPreg would be better but I quickly run out of mana.

tl;dr: Blitz laning phase item- Any tips?

Well, if you like playing him more tanky than killy, go for the sapphire crystal & H pots like Kippie said, but turn it into catalyst and then rod of the ages instead of sheen. Buy level one boots over completing the rod though. Works great with your passive so you end up having a **** load of health very early on once it's complete. With upgraded boots and overdrive, it's usually enough to get you out of most sticky situations mid-game unless you screw up big time and find ALL of them alone, or somebody's fed to all hell.

Plus, if you're conservative on your grabs, catalyst will take care of a lot of mana problems for as long as you should be laning(and a little bit after you should stop, which is often the case with me. ).

Boots? Merc if they have a lot of CC. Swiftness if not. Mobility for lulz. Activates by the time overdrive's over, so the slow isn't that big of a deal. I'd still take swiftness over it.

After that, I either get Rylai's or Frozen Mallet. People get away from the grope sometimes. One of those two makes that not happen anymore. Plus, either one makes powerfist an escape mechanism if needed!

After that, it's your pick. This is around when I'd get sheen if I'm having no trouble living or something to tank better if not. I personally stick to AP after this point and get lich bane instead of tri force, but that's just me.

I always either go saph crystal or mana manip, depending on who I'm laning with. Prob doran's ring or saph crystal if for some god forsaken reason I was soloing. Saph turns into sheen or catalyst depending on if I can build damage items or if I have to be the only tank on the team.

I have mana regen runes.
So i get saph crystal and upgrade to sheen later.

But you might want to get a meki pendant and sell it when you have full item slots. Sometimes i choose the wrong rune page with no mpregen and a meki pendant makes a huge difference.

Get doran's shield + manapot or dorans ring + health pot. Only last hit and grab.

mana crystal definitely... your grab takes half of your mana

With mp5/18 glyphs I usually get Dorans Shield and red potion first. Lane stay is important. With dorans, it is easy to get a kill or assist with your lane mate and only go back when you can afford a sheen and boots (1610 gold). Works every time.

I tend to go with a mana crystal despite having the clarity seals as well, simply because if you're not wasting all your mana then the crystal is still giving you good durability, plus you can play conservatively with mana for early laning and then have it there for the burst AND durability when you're 6. HOWEVER, as long as you rock the clarity seals you should be fine doing what Dinosaurs said. Honestly it's personal preference because NOT getting a Doran's means you have to farm less for Sheen, which makes life totally easier, but getting a Doran's also lets you farm a little better so... w/e
