What would be really awesome would themes.
Say you threw a blue card then another blue card, you get a 'pair' bonus which amplifies the effect of the second card. If you throw a red, blue, gold you get a 'flush' and get another kind of bonus applied. Stuff like that which would give some fun gimmicks to his 'pick a card' and give thoughtful players ways to manipulate red/blue cards into really useful patterns.
