There's a reason it has two different numbers for magic pen on your stat sheet.

It's cause they're different.

Hmm I am curious if lets say I have both the Abyssal Scepter (Reduces Magic Resistance by 20) and the Void Staff (+40% Magic Penetration). How will the effects stack up if the target had 100MR? Would they even stack up? :S

REDUCTION is applied first
Flat PENETRATION is applied next
% PENETRATION is aplied last

so if you have Abyssal, Sorc Shoes and Void and target has 100MR you penetrate it down to:
1. 100-20=80
2. 80-20=60
3. 60*40%=24, 60-24=36

REDUCTION can go below 0, PENETRATION can not.

But really, there are like 3 or more topics about this in last 2 or 3 pages....

I have gotten the Last Whisperer before (which has 40% armor pen) and it didn't show on my in game stats page, wonder if void staff is the same way?

The end result here is correct, but I thought I'd mention that 60 *.4 = 24 (not 42). Typo police I guess, but I stumbled on it for a moment when I was reading.
