To be honest it does seem a lot like Riot is only interested in money. Although some of their design decisions baffle me a bit. For example, Taric and Sivirs reworks, they were both great niche champs, now they're average generic champs. Having said that though, a lot of players seem to like changes like that, even if in the grander scheme they're a nerf.
In Mordes case, I'm unsure as to weather the nerf was called for. He was an immovable object early game in solo lane, who could outfarm anyone easily. Now he seems strong, just without that ridiculously powerful early game. With that in mind, I have a similar opinion of Eve, they both seem strong to me, but I never played them before they were nerfed.
Now to be honest, I think that Riot is going to need to tread carefully in the not to distanct future. They have a large player base, but they do have to keep the people who will pay money interested enough to play the game. Riot could very easily end up being a one hit wonder, I doubt that their investors will be too keen to fund development of another game should LoL fail. Again, with that having been said, investor constraints could have a lot to do with Riots moves lately.
