From level 1 to 27 i've been mostly playing Master Yi. Up until just recently I have been using AD Yi. It seemed like I was always unable to properly use my champion because in a team fight I would alpha strike in and target someone. Yet the CC from the surrounding champs would destroy me easily.

Thornmail makes AD Yi useless. Especially against a tank with it.

It just seemed I was always against the odds when it came to team fights. 1v1 I would usually win. Maybe even 2v1 if I was quick enough. But in a 5v5 I was screwed.

Recently I have been trying my hand at AP Yi. And I must say it is super fun. I only need to worry about leveling up AP instead of attack speed/life steal/damage/and crits. The Alpha strike does a ton of damage and when paired with a lich bane and deathfire grasp (the 30% health active) I can almost instantly kill squishy champs late game or halve tanky ones.

It feels like Yaster Mi is split between AP and AD with you having to give up sustained dps for burst. or vice versa Yet sustained almost never happens because you die so fast.

Full AP Yi, I once soloed a fully decked out gangplank that had the AD + Warmog setup. I deathfired him, alpha strike, then a regular hit, got him to about half. he bonked me to about 25% in which i then outhealed his dps to full hp. Then I alphaed him again and finished him off with auto attacks. It was glorious!!!! went 26/3/10 that round! have the screenshot too =)

So I feel AD Yi is a bit underpowered due to survivability and maybe should get a small buff. AP Yi seems to be ok though. Except after one AP skill you are left to swingin your sword lmao

Yi is fine. During laning, save your double hit until enemy champ is in alpha strike range, dive in and auto attack, and if you runed right there's almost 300 damage in about a 1 sec at level 2. Pair him with a stun or slow and all of a sudden holy **** he's too op.

I jungle ad yi. Please do not lane AD yi. Thats like laning nocturne, a squishy bulls-eye. lane AP yi

Your job as jungle yi:Not team fighting
Your job:Be the fastest **** thing out there, farm up, get dragon, backdoor, kill silly solo people or more when fed
Wriggles, beserker greaves or boots of swiftness, 2 PDs, IE, GA in that order
some ad and ls runes
Max out your E and Q
Clear jungle faaaast
Then ward the enemy buff of a lane you want to push
Don't blow your ult unless your for sure going to kill some 1 or are escaping, u got 2 pds and boots, you don't need your ult for a tower and rarely have to blow ult to escape. If you can't stay away from people with stuns, feel free to buy a cheap qss or get cleanse
kill the tower, see people trying to gank you from mile away thanks to ward at enemy buff

your team loaded with gold from towers and dragon, you have highest cs out there, you never die and when you see some one alone in a lane, or a GOOD engagement for a team fight, your AD, AS and LS will see you through.
Yi is squishy, fight or flight. They have a ton of AoE mages? I ain't going in there, let them dance vs my team at my tower while I take 2 of their towers and ult out of there. I see a mage alone? E + Ult + Q and exhaust TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL
You will wind up so fed then you can own 2-3 v 1

I think the problem with yi is that he's too squishy for teamfights so his only option is either cleanup or bd. I feel his ult should be reworked, I mean shyvannas w is like better than his ult almost.
