Techmaturgy is actually not as complicated as others may make it seem. It is a science that revolves around various chemical, biological, and even technical elements, and the goal of a those who study at Zaun's College of Techmaturgy is to create something that will improve the world we live in through those pursuits.
Biology is a field that those such as Singed and even Dr. Mundo find beneficial, or even imperative, to their work. The Mad Chemist, for example, would have knowledge of various chemicals in human anatomy and their role in how it functions, which he would then alter with the use of one of a myriad of serums he might concoct. Dr. Mundo's work is fairly obvious, regarding a human's pain threshold and neural network.
Ultimately, biology is a foundation upon which techmaturgy is built, and not matter what field you pursue, whether autonomy or chemistry, one must be aware of the base functions a sentient organism possesses in order to achieve any success.
