Nobody really cares about new, competitive game modes. This is a different flavor of DOTA. That's why it's good. It's different. It'll never be anything, at its core, than a "MOBA" - which is good.

I do agree that it'd be nice if Riot released less new champions, though. It is difficult to keep up, and it may become increasingly impossible to balance 150+ champions.

The map is fine, based on a map that has been in existence for well over a decade, starting with Aeons of Strife custom map for Starcraft. What they need to do is add things like a deathmatch mode to the current map or maps. What taught me dota when I played was AREMDM(All Random, Easy mode, Deathmatch) giving slightly more passive gold, and when you died you spawned as a new champion until either all champions in the map pool were exhausted or the enemy ancient was destroyed.

That required you to learn the game, and forced you to play things that you may not be used to.

tldr: worry less about the map and more about what can be done on the map.

I'm detecting some cognitive dissonance here, with the "map is fine, it's old as hell as has never been changed ever."
