Hey guys!

I'm returning to league after a long hiatus, and I've started running a mix of Normals and Ranked solo. Today I did a duo with my friend, who is Silver 4.

I don't really know how the matchmaking works at the moment, but I'm Bronze 5 and I went a top lane Zac against a ... Plat 1 Rengar.

Why is a guy with more Ranked games this season than my total lifetime games being matched against me, even if its just Normal?

He spent the whole game trash talking and destroying everyone on my team, it wasn't a very good game. It's left a bitter taste for sure!

Could someone please explain how the matchmaking all works? Noobie style?

Thanks everyone!

Edit: I've noticed that matchmaking times are super quick, as little as 5 seconds for me usually. And when games can go for 30, 40m+... wouldnt it make sense to spend 2-3m more on matchmaking to have better quality games? Am I stupid lol?

That was a normal game. Not ranked.

Ahhh, I know Cavo. I tried to say that in the OP. It was a Normal game, but if he is Plat 1 in Ranked, then his (hidden) ELO in Normals must be very high? I think this is how it works...

He was a much greater player than me, maybe *years* ahead in experience. Why the system would ever put the two of us in the same game, I don't understand...

Can anyone explain how this could have happened though? It was a Normal game, but in no world should a player of Plat 1 skill be matched against someone Bronze 1... Right?

Um im like really negative in normals and positive 30 in ranked. I throw games do stupid builds in normals. cause normals are where you do what you want for enjoyment so I'd say its completely possible

Yeah but its normals where people really play to craft theories, try new things, and have fun. The atmosphere is less serious and people care less about winning/losing, therefore they try less.

You need a place to try new builds and strategies and no one really is going to gamble an idea in ranked.

So your saying that because this Plat 1 player *possibly* throws lots of his games in Normals through experimentation/lack of effort/afking etc etc. that his MMR might be much lower than his actual skill?

And that there is nothing in place to stop players like that from absolutely facerolling against opponents no where near their skill level? That's completely retarded. There has to be more to it.

I mean ... seriously?

Plat 1 vs Bronze 1.

Unless his intentionally throwing more than half his games, which he should be getting banned for, then we should never see each other. Doesn't anyone else see that?

Normal mmr has nothing to do with ranked mmr. A lot of people hit level 30 and only do ranked, so there normal mmr is what it was when they first hit level 30, so probably incredibly low even if they're plat or diamond. He could also have been playing with a friend. Either way, you're going to see a lot of this in normal games.
