I checked out FTL. It is interesting, but the gambling aspects of it are a bit to much. In nethack etc the times you are gambling is when you have to use something you haven't identified, but you usually always have forewarning on the combat opponent. FTL is like surprise we just beamed over 3 rock dudes with 150 health into your weapon room (my last death). You cant see it coming. Moving is gambling. Nethack moving is not gambling most of the time.

This game's a little older and much slower paced but it has many of the same features as FTL and a linear (although more developed) storyline. Also you can save so you don't have to start over completely. Also it's on sale for $2.50 for the next 15 hours.

Oh man FTL. I love that game.

But it relies a bit too much on luck for the nature of the game.

Like i found another mark 2 burst laser in the first world, and i basically **** on everything until the final boss.

Next run, nothing. Bad incounters, bad shops. Lost in sector 5.
