They admire each other's battle prowess, yes. They admire the other's body, maybe. Do they have morals that mesh, NO! Garen would only kill the amount of soldiers needed to end a battle, while Kat would happily call in artillery on a village with ten warriors in it. Kat would do anything to increase her power and that of her family, as is the Noxian way. Garen tries to remain humble. Why do you all keep saying this?

*shrug* Its really how you read into their relationship. I (and my friends) are firmly in the camp of that they are not in a relationship. But that's mainly because we're cynics and tired of seeing how if two people are in conflict that means they are made for each other. (Seriously overused in a lot of fiction).

But I can see how some people could put these two together, especially with Katarina's bio remake.

Not that I ... ship ... the two, but I'd say Katarina could admire Garen's strength. In her rewrite, she's looking to prove her skills and earn a name for herself. It might fulfill those desires in some way if she managed to wrangle the Might of Demacia.

On Garen's part, there's Kat's old lore quote ("The Sinister Blade of Noxus is like a black widow - beautiful, but deadly." (You can question his taste, but that's what he said). He's a soldier through and through. If he were to find a match, it could be some normal Demacian housewife - or it could be the Sinister Blade, a woman who thrives in combat, someone who presents a constant threat and spice to life. There is that issue of the JoJ, you remember ...

That said, if I were given a choice between a forced love story or seeing them spin like tops, I might chose the latter.

Not necessarily, Garen's lore quote is about cutting people in half. One of the League champions is someone Garen cut in half.

It has something to do with the interaction between Demacia (lawful, authority and chain of command) and Noxus (chaotic, might makes right). They are opposed to each other on principle, but they are more similar than it might appear (both enforce mandatory military service). I'm not certain Demacia cares about the weak ... check out Lux's judgment. If Demacia is a shining paragon of virtue, that virtue is not "goodness," but lawfulness.

Noxus might have invaded Ionia, but they are not just about killing innocent people for no reason. Riven is an exile, but she embodies Noxus pretty thoroughly. (Noxus is embroiled in political dispute, so their ideals may be hard to discern. The lore blackout happened right in the middle of it.)

#1 - Katarina and Garen are not currently in a relationship (Riot Red Official).
#2 - Garen's lore gives significant (if not confirmed) reasoning to the effect that he finds Kat attractive.
#3 - Garen and Katarina have met several times in their official capacities several times.
#4 - Garen immediately came to Katarina's aid upon her being revealed in Demacia.

#5 - This one is speculation, but I *strongly* believe that Garen and Katarina will work together to unveil the truths behind the Black Rose conspiracy. Garen needs to find Jarvan IV, Katarina wants to find her father, and both city-states were played against each other in Kalamanda with the end result producing The Crystal Scar.


On motivations:
On the surface, both Garen and Katarina seem like exact opposites.
Katarina is a passionate assassin while Garen is a strict-minded soldier who (likely) lives by a very strict code of honor.
However, putting the two of them together would help reduce the extreme personality traits that both have.

Garen's mind would be expanded by Kat's mindset. He could very likely be attracted to her simply because she is strong-willed and would always keep him on his toes (I could see Kat 'kidnapping' him for a weekend vacation that Garen would normally spend months planning). Katarina is impulsive and would be a breath of fresh air to a soldier who has maintained an extremely strict lifestyle for his entire life.

Katarina would likely find Garen's stability attractive. She is impulsive and lives an extremely chaotic lifestyle. The confident and stoic personality of Garen would be her rock in the world, a safe place where she can always go when feeling overwhelmed. Whereas in Noxus any sign of weakness is immediately pounced upon, the honor and understanding of the Demacian would be unlike something Katarina ever knew (and something she didn't even know that she was missing).
