I'm looking for a new graphics card to replace my old one, as I'm currently using a Nvidia GeForce GTX 295. I have a budget of about $400-700. What is the best possible card I can get for my money?

Well first of all, the obvious questions. How many watts is your power supply? For a gtx 680, you'll probably need at least a 600w psu. Also, what's your cpu? Will it bottleneck a high end card?

Fracture is right. Unless you're running the Newer 2nd/3rd gen I-series, or the new FX(Pile driver) your CPU will bottleneck a high end GPU. That being said the single BEST GPU atm is an HD 7970. Currently with the 12.11 beta drivers it is about 10% ahead of the GTX 680, and it has AMAZING overclocking headroom due to low clocks but WIDE bandwidth.
HD 7970(350-420)>gtx 680(450-400)>HD 7950(260-320)=GTX 670(350-400)
The GTX 680 only requires a 500w PSU. The 6xx series is a lower draw less heat line up. The GTX 670 runs very cool and can run on a 400-450W 80+ bronze PSU. However the HD 7950/70 I'd recommend a 550W 80+ Bronze PSU.

I recommend AMD atm because at stock speeds they are faster and overclock like a dream, however if you MUST go Nvidia go with a GTX 670. It overclocks better than a GTX 680 runs cool/quiet.

The Radeons are underclocked AND they have a much wider bandwidth to take advantage of OCing.

What are the rest of your hardware specs? What resolution do you play at? These are the two important factors into what you want.

Additionally, FieldMarshal is correct in AMD currently being the better solution. You can easily find the 7970 sub $400 right now, which is just another huge plus to why AMD is the route of choice.

I perfer the 680.
I have gone the AMD route before because they were cheaper. After 2 DOA's, and bad driver support for a few games, I gave up. They were 2-6850's, a 6870, a 7850 and a 7950. 3 Different brands.

I suggest with whatever you decide, make sure your the games you like to play runs good with little complaints. Just because its cheaper, doesn't mean its the best. Even if its faster.

Like what postal said, what are your hardware specs and do you want to run 1, 2 or 3 monitors?
