Seems to me like the OP just likes the name of Moonflair Spellblade. Honestly, why make these changes? Most Mages who get this item are going to appreciate the changes made to LB going into season three. Your suggested changes don't really solve the damage nerf because most mages are only going to auto-attack a few times in a fight. So assuming the changes you suggest are made, it will force a mage to auto attack twice to get an increases in the damage from the item. This is a hindrance to most people that would build this item. Playing mages is often about getting your abilities off at the right time and in the right order. Not many players will want to purchase this item since it forces you to auto attack at least twice between abilities. Most mages deal more damage with any of their abilities and suffer greatly from taking the time to auto attack multiple times.

The toggle ability seems unneeded. It seems to me that you want to make this change solely for Akali. No other champion would benefit from it that i can tell. Anyone who wants this item would want it to deal magic damage to scale with their penetration. Furthermore, because you could toggle it, it would be hard to counter. Buying MR is supposed to be a soft counter to mages. This item lessens the effect of buying MR because they can just switch the toggle.

Of course there are champs who could benefit from this, but how you go about it is just too complicated. First of all, the price of this item would be huge. It wouldnt give enough raw stats to make it worth while. 400 for the Mantel+1260 for sheen+ 860 for blasting wand+ combine costs for both Moonflair and LB would push this item into the same range it was before (3600+ gold)

Secondly, the old lich bane had a lot of excessive stats. Like the MR? It was helpful. I mean, who doesnt benefit from MR? but honestly, if you are playign a champ that scales off of AP and you want MR and will also be in AA range then you need to buy Abyssal scepter. I dont know why you are upset about this stat. The price decrease more than makes up for it not being there.

I mostly like how it is now. It is a much more steamlined and accessible version of what it was. It costs less and is better as an early item now. Ya know, i play Akali quite a bit, and this item almost seems better on her as is than how it was. Akali is best built straight AP 90% of the time in my experience. I usually go rylais first, and then lich bane. This means that S3 change to LB is a slight buff to Akali's early damage if you build like that.

Im not saying your ideas are bad, or not doable, but in my opinion the changes you suggest are unneeded and don't really do what you want them to. Honestly, i do like the idea of bringing Moonflair spell blade back as something, but it should be built into lich bane.

This item is generally a poor choice for mages then no matter how you look at it then and I'm not making these changes to fully suite mages either. There are champions that auto attack allot and build AP. This item suites them most than most ap casters but ap casters can build it if they really want the extra damage between casts.

First off the magic proc will not damage towers like the physical one will and second physical damage heals with lifesteal when it is an on hit effect but magic damage doesn't heal with anything unless it comes from a spell cast. Spellvamp ignores on-hit effect magic damage. The truth is this item was overall nerfed for the champions that used it most and used it the most effectively. For other champions there are generally better options for itemization.

MR was a thematic stat of the item and without it they may as well change the items name because it doesn't fit the item at all without some kind of anti mage/lich stat.

I still wouldn't call it much of a buff to akali but I don't think there is any convincing you on why it was better doing physical damage in almost every case of use by its main users.

I will try to present you some reason in the form of akali.

Akali is a melee assassin and as such she will be in melee combat almost always. Her passive twin disciplines scales off AD and AP. AD gives you bonus spellvamp and AP gives you magic damage on your basic attacks equal to a % of your attack damage.

This means that attack damage overall is the stronger stat on your passive because it increases your spellvamp from discipline of might and the effectiveness of discipline of force. This means getting a gunblade gives allot more damage than just pure ap. you may not think it does but that's because you really can't see the numbers because it is displayed as a percent and not exactly explained well. additionally with the higher spellvamp you would get you also have lifesteal which the old psychical lichbane procs healed you with but the new magic ones do not.

Overall the item is cheaper and easier to get sooner but it only lost 600 gold cost to be a much worse item later. It only went from 3600 gold to 3000 gold. The champion I prefer to use it on is Nidalee and the physical damage really helped with split pushing towers but since it is magic damage now my split pushing power is diminished as ap. The MR given was never a wasted stat and this item was generally better on melee ap casters who are going to supplement their damage with auto attacks like Akali, Nidalee, and Diana.

Yeah I'd rather have the old one back instead of the current one but the old and new one still have some of the same problems.

I also forgot to mention that the old one did physical damage most of the time except in cases where you used an ability that was an on next hit that did magic damage. Ex: Siphoning strike, Devastating Blow, and Pick a Card.

Toggle may have been a lame idea so I'm going to make it just say "damage" as it used to say. It will deal physical damage in most cases except when used with magic on next hit abilities.
