When opening the shop or buying any item such as a potion, the game freezes for a very noticeable and annoying amount of time. This did not happen in the old patch.

Yes, this happens to me as well, but I optimized my hard drive using a fragmentation software and it seems to decrease the freeze time by a second or so.
