That does back my initial instinct to say no to manamune/muramana on Ryze. However, Ryze has 104 AD at level 18

Thats 130 additional AoE damage and an AoE slow every 2 seconds.

Comparing Ryze with IBG over FH
You get 5% less CDR and 30 less armor and the attack speed reduction aura..
Gain 100 Mana and 50 AP in addition to the additional sustained AoE damage (Ryze will proc it every 2 seconds). And an AoE slow.

Seems like a fair tradeoff.

Could still build FH instead if the team absolutely needs the aura against enemy AD's and neither you Tank or Support (or solo if you're running Yorick or Urgot) is already building it.

OK just watched several high elo streams from Ryze players and tested a game or two of my own.

Muramana is INCREDIBLY strong on Ryze.

Similarly, of the games I watched, most built Frozen Heart and 2 built Gauntlet. The two who built gauntlet had a much easier time chasing down kills and escaping/disengaging from fights thanks to the slow.

And in situations where the FH Ryzes missed out on kills by small margins, had they been rocking Gauntlets, they would have secured those kills several seconds sooner from the procs.

I'm highly expecting gauntlet to replace FH in Ryze normal build once it catches on and Manamune/Muramana will also become a core item for him as well.

With a build like this you can add as much as 260 additional magic damage per AA and ability (q and w) use.

Sorc Boots
Rod of Ages
Maramana
Frozen Heart
Rabadons
Lichbane

Only two of these items gives you no mana. If MR becomes an issue just grab a void staff but the nice thing about that build is that with lichbane your AA will proc around 600 damage plus the additional 260 from maramana so roughly 900 dmg (600physical 260 magical).

Right on both counts; I did not look closely enough, have since tried it, and it is indeed amazing on all counts. It shall (probably forever) be on my first order of the build. I just wish that MM didn't have the CD that tear does (or a shorter one) since it's auto-based, but I suppose it makes sense.

If you think marmana is strong add the other seraph item into that... its really simple actually since the mana building on the tear of the goddess is unique you simply finish one tear and buy another after it is maxed so you dont have to build up two at the same time while wasting an extra slot in your inventory.. Then you buy both manamune and archangels and once they lvl up you get a bonus 1k mana from the additional tear item... congrats you are now stronger than muramana ryze and hitting like a freight truck...
