Yes, we all know they have little numbered buff icon things. Reading the number isn't the problem, it's finding the number amid all of the other buff icons (some of which have unrelated numbers!) You should be able to instantly know how close you are to a Power Chord / Double Strike / free Nunu spell cast / whatever, but instead you have to hunt through upwards of a dozen constantly shifting fiddly little squares to find the right one. (Sona in particular has this bad - she tends to build lots of aura items on top of her innate auras, and every time she uses a skill her buffs partially reorder as she gains and then loses an aura.)
Even if it only takes you 1/8th of a second to find the right number, that's playing with an extra +125 ping just from cluttered UI.

It's not raw screen size but the resolution-to-physical-size ratio (dpi - dots per inch) that controls how large a fixed (pixel) size element appears on screen. A 24" monitor @ 1920:1200 is about 95 dpi; a 22" monitor @ 1680:1050 is about 90 dpi, which means that the smaller monitor will draw the same glyph about a little more than 10% bigger at the same font size compared to the larger, higher resolution monitor.
If that were the problem, I'd just scale the HUD up in settings... but that makes
all of the buff icons bigger and noiser, which doesn't really make it easier to find the information I'm looking for,
and cuts into my vision (as purple mid) of the zone blue jungler comes through after taking red buff. (That said, the new HUD max scaling doesn't scale up enough for people who really are low vision.)
