Hes better in the jungle. He can gank all around, he can secure enemy buffs/camps fast, after his first clear it only gets faster, and his ganks are godly/
Kind of pointless.
Oh yea, as already said he pushes his lane to hard.

Well obviously he's a good jungler, that doesn't stand him from being a good/decent top laner either.

J4 can jungle well and top lane, same with cho. Cho pushes hard and so does rumble, you just have to ward.

ALL THESE GUYS who just replied does not know how to play Nocturne. I play Nocturne Top or Mid [never jungle] and avg 11+ kills per game in over 500 ranked games.

btw, nocturne beats all champions.
