Its not really that strong, just build up a good amount of hp, for ap mid, try building rod,rylai,deathcap,twin shadows,boots of swift/sorcerer, and zhonya or shurelya
You can honestly kite someone with cleavers as ap caster just use abilites at the right time and keep him slowed he won't make it to you and he wont be able to heal
