America is progressive, which is a hybrid of capitalist and socialist.

To answer the OP, America is not democratic, America is a constitutional republic. We vote, but that's only because the constitution says we do.

as others have said, the USA is not a direct democracy it is a representative democracy. our representatives don't act according the wishes of their constituents, though...they act according to what they feel is in their constituents best interest. then when election time comes around, if we like how they acted we re-elect them. otherwise they are done.

there is some merit to this because most citizens don't have the time, interest, and competency needed to responsibly make public policy. however, our two party system is very dumb. it stifles public opinion by forcing voters into a binary decision which then affects a multitude of unrelated issues. it also encourages elected officials to conform to the party line in exchange for political support.

Despite what reactionary ogres on the radio say, at it's core, this is not center-right or right wing America, this New Deal/Great Society/New Frontier America. The majority of Americans want things like Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, unemployment benefits, food stamps, etc and do not want those programs cut in any way. Though, it won't be for long if austerity ghouls in the Congress and various people in other branches of the US Government have their way. Wall St. Democrats (such as Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, etc) are eager to sell out and reactionary/fascistoid Republicans are ready with the chainsaw to gut entitlements to shreds all in the name of "balancing the budget" during a crisis which was caused by greedy *******s in Wall St.

Democrats don't understand the concept of moral hazard. I like their programs but they need a lesson in psychology.

First off, I'm not a kid nor did I act like one at all. All my posts were clearly written, and I provided clear thoughts and supporting information to back those ideas. I assumed it was you because u were the most recent one responding to me at at time, and they all happened after u made your post. You have the mental process of a five year old. You whine about income tax on what you "earn". Guess what? You didn't earn that by yourself. You benefited from years of public education. You benefited from living in a safe neighborhood protected by the police and firemen. You benefited from your parents' having stable livelihoods brought on the backs of unions, unemployment insurance, health insurance, etc. You benefited from being able to get to school every day, and your parents being able to get to work every day traveling on roads in safe automobiles that are inspected by government oversight agencies. You benefited from eating food and taking medicine that is safe and won't cause you to die. All these things allowed you to "earn" what you do today, and you don't want to pay the government back.

You have the mental process of a five year old. Everything is yours, and if someone wants to share your toys you will throw a tantrum. So, you will excuse us if we call you a 'kid', because that is exactly what you are.

Please explain to me my five year old thought process? In fact, your the person acting like a kid. I didn't throw a tantrum in the slightest, merely gave my opinion and supporting facts to back it. I didn't insult them or berate them or even tell them they were wrong for having different views. And you took everything I said and pitched it at it's absolute extreme to fit your views. In no way shape or form did I ever berate the good things that the government has done and has given us. BUT what you fail to realize, is what you said has no bearing whatsoever in this topic. ALL of those things were created before you and I and were even born, half of those things aren't even government related/supplied and all of them have nothing to do with our country's politics, or what I said, or this topic.I don't have a problem at all with paying taxes and paying the government its dues. What I have a problem with, is when they start hurting small business owners like myself, and when I'm paying more than I should for problems created by others and also, rude, ignorant pricks like yourself. And don't tell me I didn't earn things by myself. I'm the one who went and performed when receiving my education I'm the one who does my daily job duties in which I'm paid for. I've almost been killed 4 times by other idiots on our "safe motor ways" and ontop of it, you know nothing of who I am, where I came from, or what I went through growing up. So next time you feel like spewing a load poo from your mouth, think about what your saying. I don't necessarily mind people thinking that much of their progress is obtained through personal effort, but you cannot accomplish anything alone.
Everything you do builds off of framework from previous people's work, much of which is made possible by government investing in the population.

A simple example are public roads, how would you travel 20 miles to everyday work if you were driving off road through forests? Would automobiles even be common if there was no network allowing cars to travel as fast, let along be safe enough? Would your current place of work even exist without the infrastructure required to support it (like utilities and transportation).
